Review: Burt’s Beeswax Lip Balm

Burt's Bees Lip Balm

A new product review for Burt’s Bees Lip Balm…

Let me just start with- I love this lip balm! It glides on smoothly (although I do get the unusual tube that feels a bit “grainy”), tingles gently on your lips, and really moisturizers through a hot summer or a windy, dry winter.

For sensitive types, the product is billed as 95.29% natural (source: burtsbees.com). Here is a run down of the ingredients: Beeswax, coconut oil, sunflower oil, tocopheryl acetate and tocopheryl, lanolin, peppermint oil, comfrey root extract, rosemary extract. As an additional bonus: the tube itself is made of over 50% recycled plastic (so be sure to re-recycle the tube when you finish!).

I first discovered this lip balm about 8 years ago during a road trip stop at Cracker Barrel. For a long time, that was the only place (besides online) to find the Burt’s Bees line. Now, the line is much more accessible and can be found at your local drugstore, Target, and some grocery organic sections; or Burt’s Bees Beeswax Lip Balm can be found at Drugstore.com.

The tube is my preference, since the tin’s consistency is not as smooth, a bit messier, and in my opinion, not as sanitary.

Cons: This version does not have color (if you are looking for tint, try their tinted variety) and does not contain SPF. You can buy the Lifeguard’s version that does contain SPF.

Retail price ranges from $2.00 to $4.99.

Review: L’Oreal Infallible Foundation

On a whim, Bionic tried the newish L’Oreal Infallible Never Fail Makeup foundation. Looking for something that stay a bit more “put” during the sweltering summer months, this looked like it would fit the bill…

The pump function is nice and sanitary. And the color choices are not too bad (aided by in-store swatches to hold up to your wrist. Price is a reasonable $13.99 at Walgreens.com. A rather large bonus is the SPF 18 protection, super for summer! With packaging promises of 16 hour coverage that resists “fatigue”, Bionic was excited to give this product a go.

Sadly, it didn’t quite live up to expectations. Coverage was good, but very thick and hard to blend properly, it felt extremely heavy on the skin. The makeup did stay present on testers faces, but there was also a large amount of transfer onto hats (ick!) and sunglasses (double ick!).

In summary, not the best foundation of the drugstore offerings, but if you like or need full-coverage this may be an option for you.

Tip: Tea Tree Oil for Skin Blemishes

Bionic's Beauty TipsI’m going to let you in on a little skincare secret that you’ll love! Next time you have a blemish (or heck, even a huge pimple), grab some Tea Tree Oil (you can find the pharmaceutical grade brand Sundown at your local Walgreens or online) and just dab it on.

The smell is very strong, but the oil is non-drying and natural. You are not soaking your skin with harsh acids and the healing time for pimples is much improved!
