How-To: Stila’s Smoky Eye

Stila cosmetics has released a new “Smoky Eye Pallet” for $38. However the quad is SO in demand, it sold out in 2 weeks! You can preorder the kit from Sephora. But if you don’t want to wait or refuse to pay $38 for an eyeshadow quad that talks then read on…
The Sephora site shows a picture of the quad, and the colors look close enough to what you can pick up at the drugstore or local Target. You can also visit Sephora’s site for a wonderful audio clip on how to apply the smoky eye (this audio clip plays every single time you open the compact?!?). It’s a nice, short clip and if anyone’s been wondering how to make a smoky eye, you now have no excuses.
Go Listen Here.
Bionic suggests checking out L’Oreal’s Wear Infinite Quads in Ebony, L’Oreal’s HIP Color Duo in Saucy 818 for a brown smoky eye, or the Sonia Kashuk Powder Partners Eye Duo in Cocktail Hour for a softer gray look.

Battle of the Stains (lip, that is)
Bionic decided to stand two of the more readily available lip stains against each other. Our picks: Revlon’s Just Bitten Lip Stain in Berry Juice versus Sonia Kashuk’s Lip and Cheek Stain in Sheer Bliss. Read on for the battle results.
Revlon’s Just Bitten is available at most Targets, Walgreens, CVS or drugstore.com for $10-12. The color goes on well if your lips are clean and dry (don’t put balm on before hand. The packaging is nice: just a clear tube with a roller ball for application. The stain is more like a gel which goes on smoothly. There is a bit of “fruity” smell to the stain. In normal wear, the stain lasted about 4 hours with drinking, eating, talking, etc not affecting it. You will probably need to apply a balm on top, or a gloss if you do not want a matte finish.
Sonia Kashuk’s Lip Stain is available only at Target stores or at Target online for $7.99. This stain is really a bargain! It only comes in one color which seems unfortunate, but it goes on nice and sheer to start and you can layer it up for bolder color. Don’t be scared by the color in the dispenser, it’s not that bright once on. The stain is a bit more liquid than the Revlon stain, but this also allows you to save room in your makeup bag by doubling the stain as a cheek color. Packaging is nice and the product goes on smoothly (again, do not apply balm before the stain or it will inhibit the stain for absorbing into your lips).
In summary, both stains hold their own against the big boys, and at these prices you can afford to buy both and play around with them. Have fun and happy shopping!

Tip: Removing Pet Hair from Clothing

Here’s a quick tip for those of us who have pets yet don’t want to go around wearing their hair. Grab a latex glove (like you buy at the local drugstore), put it on, and swipe it across the Roofus infected areas of your clothes. Good to go!
By the way, the glove trick also works great on your furniture too.

Reviews: My search for a performance mascara
A few month’s back I ventured out onto that inevitable search for the holy grail of mascara. I was unhappy with the performance of my current mascara. It had the usual complaints- clumping, smudging, flaking.
I tried classics and newcomers alike: Maybelline Great Lash Mascara, CoverGirl Fantastic Lash Mascara
,L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara
, and Physician’s Formula Mineral Wear Mascara
.
Read on for the results of my trials…

New Product: Maybelline Superstay Silky Foundation
The new Maybelline Superstay Silky Foundation promises to deliver 16 hours of coverage in a dual chamber formula that mixes as your pump it. One chamber contains the actual foundation in your skin color and the second chamber contains the “Silky Coverage Extender” (I’m assuming this is a lotion-type formula that helps the foundation grip your skin and stay put). A nice bonus? The new foundation contains SPF 12!
