Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion

Over the past few months, I have been testing (in between other products), Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion. I’ve really put this product through the ringer!

For a little background, my husband and I are big on the DIY (Do It Yourself) projects around our home. We (well, mostly him) are finishing our basement into a movie theater, woo hoo! Between all the painting, sanding, and staining- we’ve both used this lotion before heading to work and it performed quite well for us. I found that using it before painting and staining, the paints/stains washed off my skin much easier and did not dry out my skin nearly as much as normal. Here’s a quote from my husband (from last night actually) “I love this lotion. It’s slippery but not greasy and gooey.” So there you have it. It passes muster with the dudes.

In my opinion, one thing that helps with guys is that this lotion does not have a typical “buttery” feel and it doesn’t smell like flowers or fruit. It’s just a pleasant “unscented” scent (if that makes any sense).

For another test, I regularly dye my hair, and usually coat my hairline, neck and ears with petroleum jelly (i.e. Vaseline) before dyeing. This prevents stains from seeping onto your face and ears. Instead of my normal Vaseline slathering, I applied Skin MD’s lotion to my entire face, ears, neck, and hairline. I admit, I was doubtful (I get dye everywhere normally and I am always changing colors- blonde, brunette, red, you name it)- but it did keep the hair dye from latching onto my skin.

The only caution I want to present, is to not over apply this lotion. Start using it a few times a day (twice is a good amount) and let your hands settle into the new care routine. I made the mistake of applying it over 6 times (even though the Skin MD people had warned me not to) a day for a few days and my hands got a little rough. Once I scaled back to twice a day, I was fine. Now I can use it as much as I like.
