Bionic Asks: Are you a sleeping beauty?

Bionic Beauty Asks - Makeup and beauty question blog article series

This week’s Bionic Asks
How much beauty sleep do you get each night? I am pretty set at 6 hours. Sometimes I get 8, but usually only a few times a week. I’m also a night owl and get some of my best writing and work done in the dark hours. I am very definitely not a morning person.

Getting enough sleep is something we constantly hear in the beauty world. And while it’s certainly true that it shows on the outside, sleep is important in other ways too. We can’t be Powerful Beauties if we’re walking around grumpy and slouching because we’re in desperate need of laying our head to a pillow. Plus it of course plays havoc on your health- you’re more prone to illness. And with all that said, hardly any of us get enough sleep. The demands of life just don’t seem to allow enough time in the day.

If you miss your normal amount of sleep, do you catch up with a nap, or just power through your day? And on average, how many hours of snoozing do you get?

Unfortunately, I have a problem getting even 6 hours every night. I have fibromyalgia and it makes falling asleep very hard! After a few nights of this I will usually crash for about 10 hrs straight though. I feel exhausted all the time! I could take sleep aids, but I really hate doing that!

This is the subject most people in my circle are talking about. Mostly, the lack of……sleep. Most of my friends are in the 35-50ish age group. We are ALL suffering from some type of insomnia or interrupted sleep. For the past 6 months, I personally do not get more than 6 hours a nite. I feel tired and run down, but I continue to like the energizer bunny. I think this is all attributed to having a full plate, either at work or home. A friend gave me a bottle of melatonin, which is supposed to help with getting a good nite sleep. I have yet to try it. I rarely nap, unless I am sick 🙁

Take care everyone and try to get some rest so we can stay Bionic.

Hi! I need a lot of sleep and am definitley a night owl too! I have 2 little ones and although they are generally good sleepers, if they wake me in the night from a deep sleep I am very sluggish and grumpy the next day!!

Well I usally go to bed at 10 and wake up at 6 so I guess I get 8 hours a night. This doesn’t seem like enough for me, I’m extremely exausted till 8 in the morning, when I finally realize I can’t go back to bed. I don’t think I could get by on 6 hours of sleep. I would be sleeping all day if I only got that much sleep. When I don’t have to do anything for the day, I’ll go to bed at midnight and wake up at 11, so 11 hours of sleep there. But I’m a night owl, I feel more awake and rejuvenated at night, I often run around the house at like 10 cuz I have so much energy! (: I wish I didn’t have any other commitments so I could stay up till 1-2 in the morning!

I usually get 7 to 8 hours, and maybe if I’m lucky I’ll get 9 on weekends. I’m a hardcore NIGHT OWL, so I usually don’t get to bed until 2:30 or 3:00 in the morning! Even if I wanted to go to bed earlier, I wouldn’t be able to, because of all the homework I have to do. You know I’ve always been envious of early birds, I really don’t know how they can wake up at 5 or 6 in the morning, without feeling tired. I can never go to bed at 8 or 9, or even 10, that’s impossible for me! I’m like totally energized at night, I even exercise in the late evening. My father is the same exact way, he’s also a hard core night owl. I was thinking, that being a night owl might be genetic! I still think early birds have easier lives, at least they don’t get looked down upon, like night owls!

My normal sleep is in the 7-8 hour range during the week and around 9 or 10 on the weekends. I cannot function on anything less during the week; I never take a nap. I am a morning person and love crawling into bed early (between 8:30-9 p.m.) with a book, read a few chapters and turn out the lights before 10. Since I am post menopausal, a night’s sleep without waking is very rare.

Cool beauty topic BB! I average about 7 hours of sleep a night – just have to!
I go to bed as early as possible because I get up pretty early too. Kids, school, off to work, you know… I seriously do not function if I don’t get my restorative zzz’s. As the saying goes, “Early to bed and early to rise…”

Hey, I took some time to read the article and show it to my girlfriend and I’m quite pleased with how thought-provoking and interesting it was. I wish more people actually took the time to write worthwhile posts. Thanks
