I used to by a ridiculous mag junkie, until one day I noticed something – they all look the same. It’s like every magazine is trying to be Elle or Vogue (which I’ve never cared for in the first place). Now I only read Lucky, and if they keep featuring CHILDREN on their covers, I’ll let that subscription run out, too.

Ah, yes… I used to be a magazine addict! But now that the economy has plumpeted, I decided putting $2.50 towards a meal is much more worth it. I do still tend to snag an US weekly from time to time… I have a love/hate relationship with celebrities.

Hi MaryMoo, First, welcome to Bionic Beauty! I’m honestly not trying to brag about my hipness. After all, I’m a T-shirt and jeans kinda girl- my friends know that I am honestly trying to live greener (our whole household is) by cutting back on extra waste. I wasn’t reading my magazines, so I couldn’t justify the cost to paper ration.

Thank you all for sharing your thoughts on this! I was wondering how other had been approaching the magazine issue and it’s interesting to see the differences and similarities.

Kimberly, Lucky is one of my favorites! I had a subscription to them for years, but then they changed their format… sigh. I guess I don’t like change. lol

Cindy, WOW! That’s a ton of reading, girl!!

Luci, I head straight for them at my doctor’s office too. I figure for free… why not? Plus I can see if there’s truly anything new or if they’ve changed their format or added new online “offshoots” of their magazines.

Karissa, Don’t you love their idea of budget. I remember one where I saw this budget article for accessories and the purses were around $100! I can’t bring myself to spend that kind of coin. I spent $20 for each of my Kathy Von Zeeland & italian purses- I get them at Ross or Marshalls. Same thing, much cheaper price.

Ok, maybe a little boastful maybe about how hip you are? Just giving you a heads up………….
I only subscribe to 2, Allure and Elle, and only because the subscription was super on sale. I get the rest from the Library, and bring home a bunch from the office, and swap with my girlfriends too! Clearly addicted!

NONE, basically for the same reasons you listed. i only use natural (not greenwashing natural but for real natural) products and well more then half of those mags are full of ads and they are just annoying. and the clothes too, I don’t buy $200 jeans so they just dont do anything for me.

I LOVE Prevention. I used to get Real Simple but that even started to bore me, I love when they would have their budget stuff and a spoon would be $50. come on!

None…I do subscribe to decor mags, but I am over the beauty and fashion magazines. If I am waiting at an office, I will pick one up, but I don’t buy them anymore.

You are right, they seem dated. Plus, they are becoming very slanted toward the paying advertisers in each issue. This puts the truthfulness of any reviews into question.

I love Magazines. I get Allure, Lucky, In Style, Redbook, Rachel Ray,Marie Claire, People Style Watch, Real Simple and buy Fitness, Self, Shape, Women Fitness and probably a few others if it looks good. I’m like a wealth of information after reading.

I used to get Vogue, People, Glamour, ect but I now subscribe to none of them, they all got annoying after a while. Every issue seemed the same.

I used to subscribe to about $300-$500 per year in magazines, and wrote them off as ‘research’ as a makeup artist. Now? I maybe will pick up Allure (of course!) and Marie Claire (love how they style the clothes for ideas…) and that’s about it now. And it’s always bought at the airport while waiting for my plane. Wow, how times have changed. I used to salivate at each major magazine back in the Kevyn Aucoin days, but now? You’re right. Everything’s the same and rather boring. You’d think the magazines would have noticed by now that we’re not reading them anymore.
