Bionic Asks: What are you beauty pocket essentials?

Bionic Beauty Asks - Makeup and beauty question blog article series

This week’s Bionic Asks

Imagine if you will… You’re headed out for a gals night, a hot-date, a concert or ___ (insert your super-swanky plans here) and little to no pocket room and you definitely don’t want to lug around a purse.

For me, I grab a Snog mini lip balm (since it can double as a hand moisturizer and I simply cannot go anywhere without lipbalm!!), my ID, credit card, and a mini lip stick or gloss (hint: look for sample sizes at your department store makeup counters). Second hint: If I don’t have a sample size of the color I want, I add some of the lip color to an empty lipbalm tin and ta-da! Lip color to go without bulging out my pockets!

What beauty essentials do you fit into that precious pocket space?

*I’d* feel very odd if I didn’t carry at least a wristlet or small clutch bag. I can’t go somewhere with just pocket space (if I even have any — some of my garments don’t have pockets). I’ve done it before, and it drives me batty. I don’t go anywhere without my cell phone. 🙂 I then would carry a lip balm (Carmex, Chapstick, or Nivea), two lipsticks or lip glosses (or one of each), pocket-size Kleenex, my driver’s license, “plastic money”, maybe some change, a pen, a wee bit of scratch paper, keys, and any other miscellaneous small items I deem “essential”. I can downsize quite well, and still manage to pack a lot, but it’s taken a lot of practice over the years. Sometimes, even when it’s not a “special occasion”, I force myself to downsize to a very small purse/wristlet/clutch. It helps me to avoid clinging to the belief that I simply *must* carry everything under the sun, including the kitchen sink. My back, neck, and shoulders appreciate the occasional smaller, lower-weight handbags.

Oh yes… I agree, I definitely *never* leave home without my cell phone. it goes everywhere no matter how much room I have or where I am going. 😀

I know you meant primarily beauty items. But I carry fewer of those than everything else. Just so ya know I was paying attention. 🙂 And when you really think about it, a cell phone is sort of a beauty item; it comes in handy when you need to call a taxi or a friend after a bad date. 😉 (Ha, ha!) Sometimes even after a good one!

Excellent point! Plus if it’s a bad date, then I’ll twitter through it. heck not too long ago I twittered and texted through a *very* bad date. That way you all can see the pain I’m experiencing… you know, ‘cuz misery likes company and all that jazz. I know you aren’t on Twitter, Tashi but you can see my latest ones in the right sidebar (or they carry over auto-magically to my Facebook status). It was horrendous… a fight broke out in the parking lot, the cops came, and me being a klutz & a danger magnet, I hid in the cab of the pickup hoping that some errant fist wouldn’t find it’s way to my face. I made it out unscathed but the dinner that followed was so thick with testosterone & chest beating that I faked a tummy-ache and bailed.

I’ve considered writing a book about my adventures… hee hee!

I should clarify… by saying this date was “not too long ago” I mean before Thanksgiving of 2009. Just in case a certain someone reads this comment. 😉

Dude!!! Which episode of “Cops” was that??? 😉 Thanks for the note on your Twitters, since I don’t do that twittery-twit hoo-hah stuff.

P.S. Misery loves company, for sure. And DO write a book!! When it lands on the NYT Bestsellers’ List, we can all say, “Ah, we knew her when!” 😀

I *totally* felt like I was in an episode of Cops, with a bit of Dukes of Hazard mixed in. 😉 And yes, you might get some amusement from watching my Twitters in the right sidebar. You can also click the little “Follow Moi” link to view my whole twitter profile and see more of my most recent ramblings- all without having to sign up for Twitter! I sometimes post extra non-beauty freebies in there, links to blogger-bud’s giveaways, movie quotes, silly stuff about my pets (lately it’s been mostly about my baby birds which are growing like weeds!!), and rants. There are frequently rants… A gal has gotta vent somehow.

I actually picked up a 3 pack of the little mini Moleskine journals (the pocket-sized ones) to start jotting down notes for my book ideas/stories. I love hand-writing stuff lately. I guess because I write so much online, it’s nice to “take a break” and put an actual pen to paper. I’ve been journaling for the past 2 years now to get me through that… eh hm… rough patch and it’s stuck. I write in my larger Molie at least 3-4 times a week. Plus I paste in dried pressed versions of my Orchid blooms, random doodles, & mini-sized photos. I even write with a fountain pen! It’s like the polar opposite of blogging for me- offline, low tech, no wires. 🙂

Notebooks=great! I have plenty myself. Yours sound very nice. My favorites are the Jordi Labanda ones from Target. They’re so hip and chic, and SO “ME” with their designs. I love writing or scribbling all kinds of stuff. But I can’t bring myself to be so disciplined as you regarding journaling. Congrats on that! 🙂 Fountain pen?? Wow, impressive.

I’ve recently become addicted to Benefit’s Benetint lip balm. it’s a tiny little pot and it has a nice rosey tint to it thats not too overpowering and goes with anything. It also doesn’t leave your lips with that tacky feeling when it disappears.
Also, i received a set of three mini Sephora brand lip glosses for my birthday for being one of their….whadya call it? Beauty insiders! Blanked for a minute, sorry lol. But all three of those shades are kind of neutral and fit into my pocket, but I must confess I never leave the house without a purse, so I always have an army of beauty products stuffed in there 🙂
