Bionic Asks: What’s your favorite lip color?

Bionic Beauty Asks - Makeup and beauty question blog article series

This week’s Bionic Asks
What do you prefer: lipstick, lip glosses, stains or just plain balm?

My personal preference is all over the board. I guess it really depends on the day. When I’m spending the day at home with my pets and blogging, I’m all about the lip balm. I need that moisture!

But if I’m headed out, I usually apply a lip stain. It’s low maintenance, I don’t have to continuously reapply or worry about color all over my cups or whatever I’m drinking. Plus there’s just so many color varieties now.

Piha Black lipgloss by Lancome, swatch and review by Bionic Beauty blog

Piha Black - One of Bionic's favorite lip glosses!

If I want extra punch, I usually top it with one of my favorite lip glosses, like Whisper from Three Custom Color, or Lancome’s Piha Black (I’ve included links to my reviews and swatches). Towards autumn, I’ll pull my ultimate favorite dark lipsticks back out for toppers- NARS’ Captiva and Three Custom’s Doubles. The nice thing about layering is if the gloss or lipstick wears off, the lip stain underneath still gives my lips nice color!

What are your favorites?

I am a straight up gloss and balm kind of girl. Lipstick has a tendency to dry my lips out more than other lip products and stains have never worked well for me. I am not ruling either out completely but for day to day they’re out. I love Almay but the color I used went out of production so now I am back to finding that perfect color again!

Hi Stacy, Did you know that Three Custom Color maintains a database and will replicate your favorite out-of-stock color? I’m not sure how much it runs, but I do know that if someone has already had them make your particular color its even cheaper.

Have you tried the L’Oreal Color Juice sticks? I like them since they are a cross between gloss and lipstick. I agree, most lipsticks dry out my lips. I splurge when I can and then just make them last by wearing them on special occasions. I really like the NARS & Three Custom formulas. And Bobbi Brown glosses are the most amazing ever I think. They make your lips look almost fake. LOL!

I’ll definitely check that out! Thank you for sharing that with me! I haven’t tried the juice sticks so I will check them out the next time I go to Wal-Greens.

I love lip gloss, I never go anywhere without it! I really like bath and body works lip glosses! My favorites from b&bw are the Mentha lip tints (goes on clear though) and Victoria’s secret pink lip stick/gloss, it’s a lipstick but goes on like lip gloss. From sephora I like their candy lip glosses ( I think that’s what they’re called.) And from avon I LOVE their cool pout lip gloss! But unfortunately they only have cool pout in clearance books, and it’s not the color I love, it’s the cooling sensation that’s great.

Right now, I am really enjoying the ease and convenience of Clinique’s Spf 15 “Long Last Glosswear” in Bonfire. It does last a long time, the color stays true, and while it is glossy, it isn’t too shiny. It is perfect for warm weather because it will not “melt” like so many other types of product.

Luci, You are right about those Long Last Glosswear’s! They last better than any gloss I’ve tried. I have Clearly Red and Clearly Pink and use them alone or over lipsticks or stains to make everything last longer. They even hold up to the famous Florida humidity!

Lately I am going simple. I love Burt’s Bees balms with a hint of color. Perfect for summer! Other than that, I am anti-lipstick. They just seem drying and I don’t care for the chemicals they contain. I am a lip gloss girl all the way. I also like Burt’s Bees gloss and 100% Pure.

Hi Robin, You would probably LOVE My Lip Stuff then! Their balms are truly natural (in truth Burt’s Bees is quite unnatural and actually can have some harmful ingredients depending on the product) and they have over 400 varieties. I don’t get any kick back from them, by the way, they are just wonderful balms. Plus they are actually very affordable. Most are 2-4 bucks. Their Lip Tints are my favorites. And the limited edition ones!
(Here’s the review I wrote on them: and another from Mythbuster Beauty:

And welcome to Bionic Beauty! I hope to see you around here in the future. :) I’m off to take a peek at your blog now too.

I love lipglosses, balms, lipsticks, you name it! My favorite , or at least one of my favorites is a lipstick from Estee Lauder, called “Maple Sugar.” It’s one of the nicest colors, and it’s also a great lip hydrator too….
