Bionic Asks: What’s your favorite mineral makeup?

Bionic Beauty Asks - Makeup and beauty question blog article series
With the hundreds of brands of mineral makeup out there, it’s a royal pain to sort through the good, the bad, and the just plain ugly. Personally, I have tried over fifty brands (yep, you read that correctly… 50!).

I had just about given up because they either made my skin light on fire when I’d sweat a bit (that’s the icky bismuth cheapy filler that so many brands use); they’d look cakey; would settle in my pores; or they’d make my skin uber-dry and breakout massively. It was not a pretty picture.

I was finally lucky enough to find my favorites: Purely Cosmetics and PRIIA Cosmetics.
Now, every makeup look starts with Purely’s Skin Smoothing mineral makeup in California Blonde, mixed with a bit of PRIIA’s Complexion Enhancer in Angelic. For special occasions, I finish it all with Purely’s Diamond Perfect Finish powder (I love, love, love this product!). Both brands are free of those cheaptastic, and often quite bad for you, fillers that the bigger, more expensive brands are known for. I refuse to pay more money for a product that is not truly a mineral makeup!

So… this week’s Bionic Asks Have you found your must-have mineral makeup brand? How many did you try before settling? Or are you still on the hunt?

I absolutely love the Purely Cosmetics mineral foundation, but thanks to my autoimmune disease that causes horrible dry skin, I haven’t been able to use it over the winter.

I love Everyday Minerals, right now. Plus, I’ve had better luck with their shade selection than any other brand.

Hi Stacy –
I’m sorry to hear that our products aren’t working with your skin in the winter. I have a couple of suggestions that hopefully may help. Are you using the traditional formula, or the Skin Smoothing? The Skin Smoothing formula has some added ingredients that may help with that dry skin: jojoba and silk the most important. You also may want to try applying with moisturizer – apply a drop or two of moisturizer in the palm of your hand, tap the foundation on top and mix together, then apply. See if either of those help you.

Robyn, I believe that it was the traditional formula that you sent. I have tried mixing with moisturizer and it didn’t work. I am thinking about asking my dr. if he knows of anything that will help. Unfortunately I have dry skin from my scalp to my toes! lol.
Thank you for your tips:)

Hey Stacy, I was going to suggest mixing with moisturizer too, here’s what I did: but I see that it didn’t help you. Does your problem usually get worse during the “dry” season? Maybe you should move down to humid-Florida. 😀

I love Purely Cosmetics (my fav) and Everyday Minerals (for certain items). And I’m addicted to using the Beauty Blender for all my minerals!

I would love to try Purely Cosmetics, but don’t have the funds right now. I have to use up my Meow Cosmetics Flawless Foundation before I can buy anything else. It has a heavier coverage and doesn’t break me out but sometimes it can be cakey.

I am in love with Mineral Makeup that doesn’t have any fillers. BO makes me burn and itch horribly also. UGH!

I love PurelyCosmetics. I have fair, sensitive skin and Robyn’s Skin Smoothing Fair Neutral is basically the perfect shade. And my skin is much happier than with other brands (and you can’t tell I’m wearing powder):)

We have just launched a mineral make up range on Cult Beauty called RMS Beauty. It’s new to the UK, but I think it’s been around in the US for a while. Have any of you tried/heard of it?

Rose-Marie Swift is the founder, it is the only mineral range we have been recommended by our expert panel so far (will have a look at Purely though, sounds great!!). I have super dry skin too and the thing I loved about RMS is that the mineral pigments are suspended in a cold pressed, extra virgin mix of oils like Coconut and Jojoba, so they are not at all drying and can actually be used as a moistrising barrier on their own.

I am on the hunt for the perfect one for my skin…I like the coverage of the GloMinerals one but I don’t love their colors. I like the lasting power and colors of Shade by Osmosis Pur, but I don’t love the coverage…still on the hunt for sure. I may have to just formulate my own.
