Bionic Asks: What's your favorite type of foundation?

Luckily these days we have many choices when it comes to what type of face makeup we wear. Plain powders, cream to powders, just concealer, loose mineral makeup, liquid minerals, tinted moisturizers, liquid foundation… the list goes on and on.

If you’ve been a Bionic Beauty reader for a bit, you’ll know that my favorite face makeup is Purely Cosmetics’ Skin Smoothing mineral foundation. I had always wanted to like mineral makeup before, but it made me itch, breakout, it clumped and looked fake. So I’m really happy that I found Purely. I also occasionally still wear some of my favorite Tinted Moisturizers: e.l.f.’s and Sonia Kashuk’s. And on low-key days, I just add a bit of concealer and a light dusting of PRIIA’s Skin Complexion Enhancer in Angelic.

What’s your foundation style? And do you have favorite brands?

Right now I am loving YSL Teint Parfait. The #5 is my color but I have a couple of the others that work as well. I love the finish and feeling. I have a pile of minerals (haven’t tried purely cosmetics yet…just heard about them here recently..) and don’t like any of them. Mostly because of the itchies and the chaulky look they give my skin.
NCN Pro-Skin Care has a liquid mineral foundation that I also use and love. It’s got a great ingredient list and is loaded with skin care. Plus it has sunscreen. So I go back and forth between those two and keep a tube of Jane Iredale tinted moisturizer on hand for light days.
It took me years to find foundation that I liked enough to re-purchase. I’ve bought these several times each.

I haven’t found one foundation that I like yet! Everything looks dry, powdery or flaky on my face and it’s very frustrating. Also most foundations make the natural red in my face look purple and I hate that! I have to use a color corrector under my foundation to make it look halfway ok. Ugh!!!! If anyone has this problem as well and has found a solution, please let me know!!! Thanks:)

I love so many things! I am a big fan of tinted moisturizers and currently love Laura Geller and Tarte. I also like the BE Matte (no itching!). I haven’t tried Purely Cosmetics, but know I can no longer be without their Diamond Finishing Powder- it’s a must have!

I love Bare Minerals foundation medium shade, and the summer bisque concealer powder. But the medium can look a wee bit too shiny on me sometimes. I then have to very lightly dust some translucent powder on the shinies. I know Bare Minerals has talc and bismuth oxychloride, etc. But so far, those ingredients haven’t bothered me. I like the mineral foundations, as they look better on me now that I’m 40, and they don’t melt off in hot weather like liquids or creams. I’ve used tinted moisturisers, but they tend to bother my eyes, even if I’m careful with application.

Real Purity Health Glow liquid foundation in medium beige is my favorite foundation right now (and probably for many years to come.) It blends so beautifully and gives you a natural, smooth look. It only has 5 ingredients which are non-chemical. I adore this brand of makeup. I also use their mascara. I usually brush a little mineral powder over just to set. I am usign Signature Minerals right now.

I’m loving Maybelline Pure Makeup for the summer – it’s 50% water so it’s super light. I was using Maybelline Dream Liquid Mousse which is also great.

I have spent lots of time and money searching for a foundation to love. And FINALLY I found one!! I really truly LOVE Philosophy’s Supernatural Airbrushed Canvas . I also use their concealer as well. I use it just about everyday and tell everyone I know to try it.

I have heard from a lot of my clients in the salon that they love Bare Escentuals. The latest topic seems to be who makes the best foundation, the name that seems to keep popping up is Versace. Uptil recently I never even knew Versace made a foundation.
