Bionic Asks: What’s your personal nail style?

Bionic Asks - Makeup and beauty question series
I know fingernails are such a personal thing, but how do YOU wear your nails?

I’ve never been able to grow my nails much past 5 mm… even with vitamins, and extra-special hand lotions, they end up all scrappy once they get a little long. I’ve worn acrylics, gels, but usually just go with lightly filed natural nails.

What’s your preference… long, short, squared, slightly rounded, au naturale, acrylics?

I am able to grow my nails quite nicely, but I can’t keep polish on them for more than a few horus before it starts peeling. So I have acrylics. I love them because my polish looks great for a week. I keep them short and square .. a touch rounded on the corners.

fairly short, I seem to have the same problem as you. Not sure if you have this issue but mine always split, and peel. augh. My grandma has thick gorgeous nails.
Mine are usually just past my fingertip, filed square, no polish, it just comes off to fast. (pointless!) But my toes on the other hand, they always have to be fresh and painted! 😎

Fingernails are always short and au natural — for functionality really. My hands are busy, too busy to stay pretty. My polish always chips within the next couple of days. And when my nails get too long, they get annoying.
Too bad really, because my nails are strong and smooth. In university, I always kept them long for ages!
My toenails on the other hand stay painted. They don’t grow as fast as my fingernails. I don’t go for the strong colours, opting for either a clear polish or a pearl/shell shade.

I always keep my nails short as well. We must have the same problem! 😉 I like them like this though… short and sweet. And always painted with a fun new color!

In good economy I have really tacky, long, square, french acrylics. In bad economy, I have natural, short boy nails.

Kathleen, I can’t even make it a few days… my polish usually starts peeling in less than a day. I’ve had great luck with Essie, Sally Hansen Salon and Zoya though. They seem to really lock onto my nails. Plus I use Seche Vite’s top coat. That’s made a HUGE difference!

Karissa, Mine peel and split too! It doesn’t help that I always use them for tools… 😉 My toes are always painted too! Even in the midst of winter. I even use them as little art canvases- flowers, stained glass look, camo, sports team logos, etc.

Nen- My toes look so pale if I use the light shades. It must be my skin tone. Since I’m pale, I’m guessing that the light shades just make me look even more pale (I’m not sure that’s even possible, tee hee!).

Joycey, Must be genetics!! I’m really getting into painting my nails lately. I never used to paint my fingers (just toes) but lately, even though it chips off SO freaking quickly, I have enjoyed sporting so flashy colors!

Jessica, I was wondering if anyone had changed up their style due to the economy. I made myself learn to do my own pink & white acrylics at home in case I want them. That way I’m not having to pay the cash. It does take me longer, but the supplies are very cheap at a beauty supply store. You could give it a shot maybe?
