This week’s Bionic Asks…
In continuance of my support of Breast Cancer Awareness (BCA) month… let’s talk breast self exams.
I make sure to do mine weekly in the shower. It’s part of my set routine on Sunday. While I let the hot water wash off my Aztec Secret Clay mask, I do my self-exam. Since breast cancer runs in my family, I feel it’s just something small I can do to watch out for myself.
Do you do your self breast exams, how often? And if not, why? You’d better have a good reason, or you might get a Bionic smack down (of course, I’m just kidding… but you should have a darn good reason).

While I admit I don’t do them EVERY week like I should. As someone with fibercystic breasts I do notice any changes fairly easily. I also find it helpful to have my husband from time to time check to see if he feels anything weird. It’s nice to have an extra set of fingers!
i’M LIVING PROOF THAT SELF BREAST EXAMS AND MAMOGRAMS SAVE LIVES. i WAS DIAGNOSED WITH BREAST CANCER IN JANUARY 2009, SO FAR ALL IS GOING WELL, WITH A MAMOGRAM DUE IN DECEMBER AS A FOLLOW UP AFTER TREATMENT. LAIDIES, PLEASE DO SELF EXAMS AND GET THOSE MAMOGRAMS, I KNOW THEY ARE UNCOMFORTABLE BUT THE CANCER TREATMENTS ARE MUCH WORSE. tHANKS FOR READING MY COMMENTS. GOD BLESS YOU ALL, AND PLEASE DO AND GET THE EXAMS.
Also, if you’ve never done one, or haven’t been taught then ask your doctor, or nurse practitioner about how to do it, its really easy and definitely important! I do mine monthly and the shower is the perfect place to do one…you can also get your partner involved in them!
Well I’m kind of too young to have to worry too much about that, but I will def. do them once I get older.
Breast Cancer Sucks! The person I’m closest to in the world is my grandma and she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Luckily it was in the first stages and they caught it early. She had the lump removed, but she is going through radiation, her last treatment is tomorrow! yay! Hopefully she will be cancer free at the next test. I don’t know what I’d do without her.
Don’t wait until your older! You should start doing them at age 18/19 …I know of girls as young as 21 who have been diagnosed with breast ca, it is very treatable if caught early!
I totally agree with Shannon. You simply CANNOT wait ladies. You should start getting in the habit of doing your self-exams before you are 20. 5% of all breast cancer cases are women in their teens and early twenties! Men should also be encouraged to check themselves, since they make up another 5% of cases.
Check your girls, girls.
