Ok, since you are checking luggage, it’s MUCH easier. I’d recommend either Pantene flexible hold (that may not be the exact name) hairspray from the drugstore, or if you can find it White Sands’ hair spray in the Low to Medium hold (one of my personal faves). Those are both “pump” hair sprays so you won’t have to worry about the pressurized containers during flying.

Since flying and travel can REALLY dry your hair, I’d recommend a shine serum. My current favorites are: Paul Mitchell Smoothing “Super Skinny Serum” (most drugstores or salons have it, clear bottle with lime green cap & letters), or Moroccan Oil Glimmer Shine Spray (you don’t need much of this spray, moroccanoil.com, however the bottle is glass so that’s a MAJOR travel drawback), or just grab a small shine serum from John Frieda at the drugstore.
You also might want a leave-in conditioner or “end” treatment to help tame the dryness that can happen & it also happens to help with wind-tangles & flyaways: Paul Mitchell Super Strong Liquid Treatment (white bottle, bright pink cap & letters) and L’Oreal EverPure UV Spray (*not* the leave-in gel pump stuff, ick, trust me. You’ll find this at drug & grocery stores) are both great for while hair is still wet after a shower.
Then if you need something for flyaways: White Sands the Cure 24/7 is simply unbeatable! I have a ton of hair treatments here and this one just blows my socks off. I really need to get a review up. I use it after styling on my ends or any spots that are being a bit unruly or just look a bit dry, split, frizzy, etc. Amazing and very versatile product!

For makeup… I recommend Purely Cosmetics mineral makeup applied with either a damp Beauty Blender sponge (www.purelycosmetics.com; and there are full reviews & makeup looks on here: http://bionic-beauty.com/category/brands/purely-cosmetics/) or with a flat-top natural bristle brush. For TV, I would DEFINITELY recommend PC’s Diamond Perfect Finishing Powder that goes overtop of your makeup. It is MUCH better from my experience, and even talking with top of the industry makeup artists, than MakeUp For Ever’s HD makeups and powders. So those are my recs. I don’t have fine hair, but it isn’t thick. I will be checking luggage, if that helps. While I am bugging you for advice, can you recommend a good foundation for being on TV?

@Stacy LOL! I know what you mean there… too many squashed toes by horse hooves for me to go polish-less.

@Kelley (PRIIA), I went for a pedicure twice in my life. Both times, different places, they cut my toe nails too short for me. The one was all achy for weeks… so now I refuse to turn them over to anyone but me.

@Jen, I know *exactly* what you mean. I’m keeping mine polished in hopes of the same thing. At least we have our pups, right?

@Jaz, Good for you! I know that’s for the best. I really need to be better about the “breaktimes”.

Oooh, Holly, that’s a tough one!! Hmmm… If you aren’t checking any baggage, you can only take items under 3 ounces in your carry-on. I would suggest a small bottle of wax/molding paste (like from TiGi, L’Oreal, or Paul Mitchell – check your drugstore or Target for good prices)- you can use that VERY lightly on ends to define, or brush lightly over your strands to add shine. If you have fine hair (like mine)- I just take a small bottle of some silicone shine spritz or shine serum. On the cruise you’re going to have to deal with wind if you are outside, so the shine serum will help with tangles too.

Let me know what hair type you have and I can get some specific recommendations together for you!

Hi Jami!
I am going on a cruise where I will have lots of time to promote The Dinner Garden. What can I take with me to give my hair hold that will be able to go on a plane? I don’t think I can take Aerosol hairspray and Mousse. My hair is really slick and straight, so I need a lot of stuff to make it do anything.

Haha! I barely even shave my legs during the winter!! How sad is that? My toes and legs are hibernating…. Come spring time I’ll start painting my toenails with glorious spring color! Thank god the hair on my legs is pretty light…
