Heading to a salon Grand Opening!

While it looks like not much happened on Bionic Beauty today, I’ve been working behind-the-scenes since 8am. Hopefully you all will benefit from the upgrades soon. I’m working on an improved navigation bar so everyone can find articles related to a specific topic in an easier and quicker manner. Also in the plans- a FAQ page and a page listing the most-popular tutorials. I’m open to other suggestions to improve Bionic Beauty, just leave your thoughts in the comments.

Now, let’s get down to a Bionic Boondoggle! For those of you who don’t know what a Bionic Boondoggle is… it’s basically a mash-up of wonderful things that caught my eye recently.

First up… the sales!

  • Get a FREE $5 gift card from e.l.f. cosmetics with a $20 purchasee.l.f. cosmetics and makeup gift card coupon code! Just use coupon code CINCO when you checkout.
  • From now through April 30th, get 25% off your entire purchase plus get FREE standard ground shipping at Sally Beauty’s website25% off coupon code for Sally Beauty supply!! Enter promo code 555919 at checkout. I know I’ll be stocking up on Ion Color Brilliance hair color! I just wish I could use this in their brick n’ mortar stores as well, but I guess we can’t have all our wishes granted.
  • YBF Skincare is celebrating their 3 year partnership with The Skin Care Shop. Between now and June 1st, YBF is giving away over $1500 of their incredible skin care products via Twitter! Head over to the YBF website for the giveaway schedule and learn how to enter!

From around the web

  • Mo at Mythbuster Beauty got her hands on MAC’s new Stacked Crushed Metal Pigments and created a very pretty makeup look! For non-MAC peeps (me included), I’m not sure what that fancy-dancy name means, but I think they are powdered shimmery eye shadows. *wink*
  • I’ve long been a fan of Kristarella for her awesome web design skills and extremely helpful tutorials. She’s pretty much my blogging idol. Recently she posted an article chronicling her weight loss that I felt should be shared. It was so open and real – she definitely qualifies as a Powerful Beauty in my book!
  • One of my fave indie makeup lines, Purely Cosmetics is exhibiting at the IMATS makeup show in LA on June 26th and 27th. If you’re going to be in the area, please stop by the PC booth and tell Robyn I said “Howdy!”. I really wish I could go. Alas, some day… maybe.

And last, an explanation for my picture- this weekend, I got dazzled up to attend a friend’s salon/spa grand opening in trendy SoBe. So that’s me playing grown-up-prom-night. Fun times!

Now it’s your turn to Boondoggle! Have you spotted a funny video, or a quote you love, or a moo-lah saving sale? Did you do something extremely fun or meaningful this week? If so, please share!

Awwww shucks, Robyn. 🙂 You rock!! Thanks for the ego boost. Hee hee!

3 The Cheap Chick April 27, 2010 at 1:13 pm

I second that! You look totally gorgeous, and I hope you had a blast 🙂

Thanks Erin. I did have *lots* of fun actually. And I haven’t dressed up like that in SO long, it felt nice!!

5 Yvonne Calderon April 28, 2010 at 11:17 am

Good Morning Jami!

You look absolutely GORGEOUS!!! Truly Bionic!!!! Keep up the good work. I soooo enjoy visiting your site. Makes my day!!!

6 Bionic Beauty April 28, 2010 at 12:48 pm

Thank you Yvonne! 🙂 I really appreciate your compliments (and everyone’s!). They make the long hours worth it!

Girl, ya look fab!! How cool that ya got to go and celebrate.

I’ll have to check out Kristarella’s weight loss story. It sounds moving and inspiring. We all need to read uplifting pieces, and to join in celebrating all the good stuff! Plus, I love tutorials. Groovy-shmoovy!

Hey Tashi, Gracias for the compliment! It’s been years since I’ve gotten dressed up like that so it was fun to dig through my old dresses. And I’ve had that beaded cape for a few months now- found it online at a vintage place for a deal! I really love “Old Hollywood” glamour type accessories. One of my many weaknesses.

I really think you’ll enjoy Kristarella’s story. It’s full of personality and you & I seem to like a lot of the same things. 🙂

Yer welcome for the compliment. Hey, after the year you said that you had in 2009, seems you deserve to dress up *every day* of 2010, girl!! Why WAIT for a so-called “special occasion”? Wear that ensemble to the grocery store. And be sure to tell us if you get any favorable reactions from the gentlemen. 😉

10 Bionic Beauty April 30, 2010 at 4:42 pm

Oooo! That would make for a fun Powerful Beauty experiment! Wear something fancy one day, totally crazy the next and compare people’s reactions.

After the big D, I definitely dress differently. I wear skirts and dresses “just because”. And it makes me happy… and I can’t ask for more than that. 🙂

11 Tashi April 30, 2010 at 6:21 pm

Well-said, Jami! Yes, quite the Powerful Beauty experiment. Go for it!!!!!

It’s great to read that you’re doing stuff “just because”. Keep it up! What’s life, if not to do stuff JUST BECAUSE???!! (No disregard for the law or others, of course.) I don’t have hardly a skirt or dress, not much that way. But I like dressing up sometimes as well. It’s important for each of us to remember US, despite any crud that we may be going through, or have gone through, or stuff that we’re worried about. I’m currently one tadpole in the immense, gargantuan ocean of job seekers. But not all is gloomy. I find that dressing up a bit is good for self esteem and one’s overall outlook on things, and others notice it too! 😀 It’s all part of Powerful Beauty, you know? Always remember to invest in *yourself*.

Ok, Jami, how about you go grocery shopping dressed as Big Bird? Can you IMAGINE the reactions?? ROFL Remember how Dharma used to act all nutty and dress up and go shopping with her friend on “Dharma and Greg”? Dang, I miss that show! She had such a fun, carefree attitude.

Thanks for the mention! I’m really glad you appreciated it. I was surprised & happy with the response that article got. It has been really rewarding to connect with people on a more personal and not so technical level 🙂

Hi Kristarella, You’re welcome! I should be thanking you for all the help you give us fellow techies. 🙂 I liked the picture of you at the “fancy dress party”… very glamorous Aubrey Hepburn look!

Tashi, I’ve been thinking good thoughts for your job hunt. I have some close family members in that same pool swimming with you. I wish things would turn around!

I loved Dharma & Greg too! I don’t have a Big Bird costume, but I have both my Harry Potter/Hogwarts costume & my Rainbow Brite ones I made. 😉

15 Tashi May 1, 2010 at 2:20 pm

Thank you very kindly, Jami. 🙂 I appreciate the good thoughts! Little bits of light at the end of the tunnel have been flickering, and I know it’ll all improve, more and more. Best wishes and good luck to your family members, too!! We all just have to hang on and hang in there.

Well, Big Bird was the first one I thought of. LOL I bet flirting with the gentlemen while you’re dressed as Rainbow Brite would be a hoot.
