You knew I’d have to take a deeper look at this mascara at some point, right? At the end of 2007, Smashbox Cosmetics released “Bionic Mascara”.
Here’s what Smashbox has to say about the mascara:
THINK: Lashes with superhuman strength.
WHAT IT IS: A jolt of energy for lashes. Sure, we all want the illusion of fuller, longer lashes. But why stop there? Perk up lashes from the inside out with Bionic Mascara from Smashbox Cosmetics. It’s no fantasy: The ionic technology behind Bionic Mascara makes lashes longer and stronger. No more dry, brittle lashes when the makeup comes off at the end of the night—just healthy lashes as far as the eye can see. Ionic technology now does for lashes what it’s done for hair as it strengthens, lengthens, and volumizes.
Bionic Mascara’s secret weapon is a chain molecule with a positive charge. The friction caused by sweeping the mascara brush across lashes causes a negative charge. The positively charged formula binds to negatively charged lashes with just one coat.
While the ionic formula promotes shine and strength, aloe, wheat protein, silk and olive oil go to work conditioning. Bionic Mascara’s specially engineered brush eliminates clumps and delivers carbon black color in one fell swoop. The long-wearing, water-resistant formula means longer, stronger lashes all day.
Has anyone tried this mascara? And if so, what were your thoughts? Being we share name-sake, I’d love to get some details on its performance.

This sounds amazing! I’ll have to check it out the next time I’m at the store! = )
I have not tried it yet. I haven’t tried any smashbox products yet. lol. But I am in the market for new make-up so thanks for the heads up.
I love that someone finally named a product after you. It’s about time!
I am glad that the mascara holds true to its noble title. I can almost picture Jami applying this to the Bionic Theme Song!
Jennifer- let me know if you do. I’m dying to find out how it actually works!
Misty- Me neither! LOL! I can’t believe I haven’t. Maybe someday I’ll get around to it. So many brands, so little time…
Cheap Chick- Bionic power ROCKS!
Jen- And then I sprint off in a slow motion run through the woods! Wooosh!
I actually havent “officially” tried it (I say officially because I did snag a swap at Sephora once), but my best friend who is uber-picky about mascaras (just like moi), now swears by this. She says this baby is God-sent. I’m looking to pick it up asap!
I have a tube of this–would have commented earlier but somehow entirely missed this post. I really like it. I only need one coat for daytime, or a coat and a touch-up. I never wear more than 2 coats. It doesn’t make my lashes really crispy, if you know what I mean–they’re still flexible, not hard. I do have quite dark and decently long lashes, so I’m mostly after volume and some bonus length. This doesn’t give lots of volume, but it does enough for me, and it does add some nice length. I don’t know how great I am at putting on mascara, but I think the effect is quite nice. It stays on well, but comes off with a makeup-removing wipe at the end of the day. Hope this helps a bit.
