Karissa, Perfect tip with the coconut oil! I'll try that!

Zydeco Kitten, I'd suggest instead of plain tap water, that you use a conditioner, either a spray in or a regular bottle conditioner to lock out the pool water. Regular water does not do much to fill out our hair cuticle, but conditioners (or even some of your leftover body lotion or SPF lotion) will fill the hair cuticle and keep it from absorbing the drying salts from the ocean or the chemicals from the pool. :)

Cheap Chick... Ahh... lakes. MO's lakes weren't too swim-able. But I did loads of lake swimming when I lived in Georgia. :)

That is such a cool tip! My only tip for keeping my highlights pristine in the summer is to swim in lakes, not pools! But then, I DO live in the Land O' 1000 Lakes...

I never heard of using Alka Seltzer however, I have heard that if you want to keep your color or prevent breakage that you should saturate your dry hair with regular tap water before going into the pool so that the chlorine will not be absorbed into your hair. I think I would feel more confortable reapplying this before I got my hair wet. Any comments on this idea? Thanks.

I don't do highlights but what a great tip! I will pass that one around.

If I go out I slather my ends and even the top if my head and hair are super dry with unprocessed coconut oil. smells fantastic all day and uber moisturizing!
