Lori, You should check out the lower priced version at Target. It's by Sonia Kashuk and is blue. There's 2 in a pack for $8... and it works JUST as well. I got 2 when they were $2 off recently. Enjoy!!

Hi Judy, I have actually tried both- the Beauty Blender (as I wrote about above) and the silk sponges. I used to use the Caribbean Silk Sponges for my art work. I read about people using them for makeup application and decided to give it a shot.

Even though they are so much cheaper- I didn't have good luck with them, so I can't honestly recommend them for use. They are too porous for proper makeup application. The larger holes hold too much product and make the foundation apply unevenly. Plus since the silk sponge holds so much product- you end up wasting a TON of your makeup and foundation.

My other drawback was the size and dimensions. I cut some down to use for eyeshadow, concealer, and blush application; but the sharp edges ended up again, creating a very uneven application.

So, even though the cost savings is quite nice, they aren't the best for makeup. If you want to save a few bucks on sponges- maybe pick up the white cosmetic sponge wedges at your local drugstore. Those are the proper porosity and washable. They aren't nearly as nice as the Beauty Blender, but will do for most people. However, those too soak up a ton of mineral makeup & liquid foundations making you lose money on your actual makeup products.

I hope this helps!
Cheers,
BB

I have been using the natural version of beauty blender for years, it just called Caribbean silk sponge. The 2-3 inch forms are shaped almost the exact same as the artificial version. I get them at the Natural Bath & Body Shop for only $2.50 ea and they easily last 3-6 months. Sea sponges are biodegradable and can be composted when worn out. Can anyone post a comparison of a natural silk sponge vs the BB product?

Mo, I know! How can a sponge be this great?!? I never thought I'd love a freaking beauty tool as much as my Blender!

Luci, I can't wait to hear your thoughts! Be sure you use it damp. I made that mistake the first few times (duh) and was very confused. :) Also, bounce it across your face lightly. It applies more than it looks like. You should end up using a TON less product than you normally would.

Joycey, It took me ages to figure out how to get the mineral makeup thing down. Look for a flat top brush if you don't have the Blender. I got mine from Purely Cosmetics- but Walgreens has the EcoTools that are nice, or grab one from Sonia Kashuk. Put some minerals into a pan/lid/saucer, dip your brush in lightly. Tap your brush on the edge. Then I swirl my brush around in my saucer to get the minerals on there even. Otherwise my brush was always loaded unevenly. Then swirl onto your face. Buff like you're taking wax off a car. :)

Or try Sonia Kashuk's sponge (it's blue & available at Target for $7-8).
