"Under the Sea" makeup look by Bionic Beauty
I am constantly on the hunt for highly pigmented eye shadows that are affordable. That’s one of the reasons I am such a fan of Milani’s shadows. Bang for your buck- they are superb!
On a whim, I picked up a super bright palette of eye shadows from Hot Topic. Not some place you think of when buying makeup, right? After swatching them on my arm, I realized these colors are really great! While I know not all of you will run around sporting blue, green and yellow shadows, it can be fun.
Without further delay, here’s the how-to and details behind the eye makeup look I nicknamed “Under the Sea” (yeah, I was a bit short on the creative naming side today…):
Just a few Bionic Beauty press mentions (and a coupon!) from around the web…
DuoChrome shadow look using L'Oreal Intrepid over e.l.f Black Licorice
I was a featured guest blogger on the e.l.f. cosmetics website. I featured some looks and tutorials on using duochrome eyeshadows over top a black base. (There actually seems to be SO much confusion in the comments on elf that I’m not sure I got my tutorial point across, but hey, what can ya do?).
I used DuoChrome eye shadows from Spell Cosmetics (If you haven’t heard of Spell before, check out some of my other makeup looks and product reviews on their super-cool makeup) L’Oreal HIP and Purely Cosmetics (I used Purely’s Soft Moon before in my Pink and Blue spring makeup look and in a look to accent it’s gorgeous duochrome effect).
Also…. here’s what you’ll love!! The first 100 comments on my blog post *over on the e.l.f. article itself* will receive a FREE $5 gift card straight from e.l.f.!!
Plus Bionic Beauty was listed on the Top 50 Beauty Blogs around the internet. Yeah!! Congratulations to everyone else who made the list including some of my personal favorite blogs: Makeup Bag, Musings of a Muse, and Mythbuster Beauty!
I decided it was high-time I checked out eye shadow primers. Being the budget-minded gal I am, I hopped over to my local drugstore to grab L’Oreal’s De-Crease Eye Shadow Base.
First up, I wanted to try a swatch test before I actually went crazy creating eye makeup looks. The photo below shows seven eyeshadows of various brands, colors, and finishes. The top row is on my arm bare (no primer) and the bottom row is applied over De-Crease.
Of course I’m not dressing up like a mermaid but this eyeshadow look reminded me of seashells and mermaids. So that’s what I called it.
It’s very simple to create and I got quite a few compliments through the day!
- L’Oreal HIP eye shadow pigment in Tenacious (848)
- Spell Cosmetics shadow mineral pigment in Citron (bright lime green)
- Spell Cosmetics shadow mineral pigment in Aurora (bright purple with blue undertones)
- Physician’s Formula Mineral Wear Mascara in Black
I’m including a photo of the shadows I used so you can use substitutes from your own makeup collection. I really do recommend the Spell shadows though. They are fun and bright!
Coat entire eyelid lightly with Aurora. Even though this color is bright, I blended it out until it was more of a purple wash.
Citron goes on the outer half of your eyelid. Don’t worry about the line between the colors. We’ll cover that up in a second.
In the middle of your lid, where the purple and green meet, use the HIP Tenacious. This copper color brings the two together and adds a ton of shine. If you’d like, use Tenacious to line your lower lash line.
Apply your mascara and done! What do you think of the look? Is this something you would wear for Spring?
Worship Me. Spell Cosmetic’s infamous body lotion. What did ya think I was going to talk about?
I had to share my thoughts on this body lotion with all the other Bionic Beauties out there. It’s a pleasant lotion in a world of blah and so-so. Worship Me is a superior moisturizer with nothing extraneous. It’s handmade by the gals at Spell. It keeps me soft through a dry winter day and instantly repairs hand/heel cracks and pesky dry elbows. Yet despite it’s creaminess, it sinks in quickly and doesn’t feel heavy or greasy.
It’s also Paraben free (Yah!). The scent is attractive and sensual… quite possibly the inspiration behind the name. The lotion is scented with ylang ylang, patchouli, eucalyptus and orange. Yummy!
Worship Me comes in a 8 ounce bottle and you can pick yours up at Spell Cosmetics website for a reasonable $10. Go on, worship yourself and be a powerful beauty!
