I have to be honest, I’ve put my name in a multitude of times and never received a sample from them… nor have I heard of anyone actually receiving a free sample from them. So it may not be worth your time, just a fair warning.

Welcome to another installment of Bionic Beauty Homemade with Joycey Couture!

What do you get when you wash your hair everyday in the midst of winter? You guessed it- dry hair!
In my quest to find a solution, I came across this recipe. Time for show and tell!

Has the winter months wreaked havoc on your hair? Try this DIY cucumber hair drench!

Ingredients:

• 1 egg
• 1 eggshell’s worth of olive oil>
• 1 quarter of a peeled cucumber

Directions:

Blend the egg, olive oil and peeled cucumber together in a large bowl and spread it evenly through your hair. Leave the mixture on for at least 10 minutes and rinse thoroughly. For the best results, use this treatment monthly.
Also great during those beach and pool filled months we call summer.

Welcome to another installment of Bionic Beauty Homemade with Joycey Couture!

This week’s DIY beauty recipe is multi-functional and super easy to make. This sea salt beachy hair spray conditions your hair, refreshes it with a light scent, and you can use it for a styling product! Simply spray it in your hair, twist your hair gently into tendrils, let them hang that way until you’re ready to leave the house (or car), then lightly comb through with your fingers – instant beachy, bed-head waves!

Create your own Beachy Sea Salt hair styling and conditioning spray!

What you’ll need…

• A 6-8 ounce spritzer/spray bottle (I save my empties from previous spray-in conditioners or hair sprays)
• Plain water (distilled, tap, spring, whatever)
• Very fine grain sea salt (find it in the spice aisle at your local grocery store)
• Spray leave-in conditioner (I love Paul Mitchell’s Awapuhi Moisture Mist and L’Oreal EverPure’s UV Protect Spray!)
• 2-5 drops of pure Coconut Oil

Creating your own beachy spray…

1. Fill your spritz bottle 2/3 full with water.
2. Add one teaspoon sea salt and shake well. Keep on shaking until all the salt is dissolved.
3. Pour in about 3/4 of an inch to 1 inch of Leave-in Spray Conditioner (Use less if you have normal hair or the full inch if you have dry hair.)
4. Add 2-5 drops of Coconut Oil (You can vary this amount depending on your scent preference.)
5. Shake it up and spray away! Be sure to shake the bottle each time before applying.

This week’s Bionic Asks… What is your special occasion, dress-up or date-night hair style? Do you reserve certain styling products and appliances for those days? And how much time do you set aside to get your locks in shape for a big night out?

Personally, I usually end up flat ironing my hair after applying a light layer of Hana Shine Serum. Once my hair is laying sleek and straight, I apply some AG Split End Spa or other creamy-textured “conditioning” hair serum type of product to the keep the ends of my hair from frizzing. Then I mist over it all with a shine spray (I use YY’s Shiny Me Sweetgum spray).

Alternatively, I sometimes do pretty much the same, but use my flat iron to add some light waves throughout my hair, then mist it with a Sea/Beach spray (here are some previous reviews or just make your own!).

Fall is right around the corner and if you’re looking for the easiest ways to update your current hair style to follow the runway and street trends- Total Beauty has given us a quick breakdown of the top Fall 2010 hair style trends.

Even though I know quite a few Bionic Beauties don’t follow trends and fads, this article might inspire you to try a bit of a different hair-look when you next head out the door! This week’s Bionic Asks… What hair styling tools and appliances do you own? And do you use them all?

I have a pink Hana Mini Elite flat iron (here’s my review and photos), a full-sized Hana Professional flat iron, a KQC Professional Mini flat iron (my review and pictures), and a CHI Rocket Hair Dryer.

Both Hana flat irons and my CHI dryer I got from Misikko.com since they’re a small family owned business, have great sale prices, and absolutely a-maze-ing customer service.

When I’m home, I’m always using the full-sized Hana iron. The Hana Mini goes on trips with me since it’s smaller than my palm!

And I absolutely adore my CHI dryer. I had a Revlon hair dryer until last year and didn’t realize there was much difference in dryers. The CHI is an Infrared Ionic dryer – it dries my hair faster with less heat. It works by breaking up water molecules and blasts them away, rather than boiling them off of your hair like regular (i.e. non-ionic) hair dryers do. The boiling action is what causes hair damage.

Anyhow, that’s my list. Now it’s time to share yours!

My results said I was indecisive. Hmmm… I don’t quite agree with my actual personality being indecisive. Sure, I may change my hair style constantly by adding highlights, cutting in bangs, dyeing it all blue on a whim, but those are my little thrills in life. But the personality that makes me “Jami” is quite decisive- I set my goals and move toward them, I know what I enjoy doing in life, and I am very decidedly a-okay with being a geeky gal who doesn’t always follow the herd.

Do your results match your personality? Or would you describe yourself entirely differently?

This week’s Bionic Asks… What is your daily hair care routine?

I thought it would be fun to share our favorite steps in getting our locks “ready for the day”.
Here’s my usual hair routine:

1. Shampoo and condition every other day with a sulfate-free shampoo (Rinse hair very well on the days in-between),
2. Use a leave-in cream conditioner at the ends of my hair while still damp,
3. Spray a light leave-in spray conditioner (I like the ones by Paul Mitchell such as Super Strong) over my entire head,
4. Let air dry -or- if I’m in a hurry I will blow dry until just barely damp,
5. Run shine serum through ends of hair and then over the top of my hair to calm flyaways,
6. Finally, hit my curvy/wavy hair chunks with my flat iron.

Those are the basics for me. I’ll have a Bionic Asks segment upcoming to talk about your date night or special occasion hair routines. But for now, let’s hear your daily step by step process!

Umm… Sorry, but I’ve never imagined myself doing that. If I had the money for Manolo’s, I certainly would be spending it on a new geek-gadget instead. But that’s just me. I certainly can’t deny another Bionic Beauty her love of shoes!

My face shape is definitely round, so Total Beauty recommended the “Curly Ponytail” for moi. However, in my personal experience, as long as I add some height to the top of any curled-hairstyles I attempt, it usually works out just peachy.
