Bionic Asks: What’s your go-to makeup look?

Bionic Asks - Makeup and beauty question seriesI know I have a quick, personalized makeup routine that takes me absolutely no thought to create. It’s basic, yes, but it also suits me for most days.

Do you have something similar? A makeup creation that’s your “signature look”?

Here’s what I use on a normal day in Bionic-land…

  • Light application of foundation. My makeup of choice is a relatively new discovery for me… Purely Cosmetics “Pure Silk Mineral Foundation” in California Blonde. LOVE it!
  • Deep brown eyeshadow. I’m wearing Milani’s Java Bean, but some days I switch it up with L’Oreal’s HIP pigment paints in Gutsy (very, very similar colors).
  • Of course, I coat my lashes with my favorite mascara: Physician’s Formula Mineral Wear in Ultra Black.
  • Lip color in a neutral color such as Bobbi Brown’s Aubergine lipgloss (which I’m wearing in the picture) or another fave L’Oreal’s Color Juice Stick in Chai Love You (for days I want less shine).

Me by Mezhgan’s mascara

My Bionic Beauties know that I have one favorite mascara in my life. I never thought I’d find another to compare, but it’s finally happened. Crazy, right? Are pigs flying?

Volumizing Mascara - Look at Me - me by mezhgan

Me by Mezhgan’s “Look at Me” volumizing mascara is one of the new fangled mascara’s that forms ‘tubes’ around your lashes. I didn’t believe the hype for the longest time. In fact, I’ve tried quite a few that were just, ho hum. Look at Me is awesome! It did everything right. My lashes are longer, fully defined, no clumping, no flaking or smudging even if I wear it to work out.

At night, the little tubes just slip right off your lashes. No longer do you have to scrub-a-dub-dub to remove your mascara!

Pick up your tube now at MeByMezhgan.com for $19.50. Definitely a Bionic Buy!
Stay tuned for more reviews of Me by Mezhgan’s makeup line.

e.l.f. launches new Studio Professional makeup line!

Breaking news for Bionic Beauties!

e.l.f. Cosmeticself cosmetics (eyes.lips.face) has launched a whole new line of makeup tools with their Studio “Professional Line”. Sleek packaging, dual-use items but with a slightly higher price- $3 instead of their usual one dollar. Still cheap-O on the grand scheme of things!

Here’s what the new collection includes so far… (**note: You can click the images to go direct to elf’s page for that project. I tried to make it easy for you to check colors, ingredients, etc.)

eyeliner and shadow stick - (these look SUPER cool. Eyeliner on one side & coordinating thick shadow pencil on the other. Available in pearl/glow, black/smoke, brown/basic, green/moss.
green/moss

eyebrow treat and tame - Available in light, medium & dark to suit all brow colors. One side holds a “treat” gel to help ‘grow your brows’ (???) and the other side is a tinted mascara to color & tame them.
dark

eyebrow kit - each compact comes with a tinted wax & a colored ’setting’ powder to get full & tame brows. Did I mention this compact looks JUST LIKE Nars’ eyeshadow duos??? This item is really intriguing me since most brow waxes are *much* pricier.

There’s lots more products… yep, I’m giving you the WHOLE rundown on the new makeup collection, so keep on reading!

Bionic Asks: What makeup are you wearing today?

Bionic Asks - What makeup are you wearing today?
I’m kicking off a brand new Wednesday series here at Bionic Beauty called “Bionic Asks”. Basically this is YOUR chance to shine! I’ll ask a question and you get to answer.

To start things off… “What makeup are you wearing today?”
And since it wouldn’t be fair unless I contributed, here’s my “look” for today:
Bionic Beauty's makeup look

  • Physician’s Formula Organic Wear tinted moisturizer
  • Sonia Kashuk’s pressed powder (translucent)
  • Eyeshadows: Clinique’s Stay Matte shadow in Martini (a khaki brown) for the base, Lancome’s Positive for brow highlight (matte cream), and Designer (metallic khaki green) for outer corners and along eyelashes.
  • Physician’s Formula Mineral Wear mascara in Ultra Black
  • Bobbi Brown’s lip tint in Black Cherry (but it had worn off by this point…oops!)

My hair was a bit of a mess, since I took this photo after a long trip to Lowe’s and then working outside in the garden.

You turn! What makeup are you sporting today?
Check back each Wednesday for the next “Bionic Asks”.

Bronzed Eye Look with NARS Shadows

NARS Eyeshadow Duo in Brazil

A new set of eyeshadows to play with, and Ta Da! A new look for Bionic Beauty! This look is a bronzed neutral eye. It’s laid-back, easy to create and works great for daytime or relaxed weekends. The colors work for summer (hinting at the summer sun) or fall (reminds me of the color changing leaves).

Before I get into the look itself, I’ll tell you a bit about my experience with the NARS eyeshadows (I used a Duo called Brazil… photograph to the right). The shadows are highly pigmented and press right into place without the under-eye fallout that’s common with some brands. I love how they blend easily and apply evenly (don’t you *hate* when shadows seem to clump up the color on your lids? Even if you try to blend them out? Ugh.)

They are a bit pricey, so you might look for dupes to recreate this look if your budget is limited.

Bronze eyeshadow look by NARS

To create this look, I applied the shimmer bronzey color across my entire lid and up into the crease. Then I took a big eyeshadow brush and blended the crease color up my eye until the color just faded into my skin (you don’t want any harsh lines when the shadow begins or ends). (BB’s note… if you look real close in the photo above, you can see the reflection of my pool. Tee hee!)

Then just apply the pinky color into the outside corner of your lid. Whip out that same blending brush and smudge the two color together so they blend and gradiate into each other. Apply some mascara, and you’re done!!

NARS Duo Eyeshadow in Brazil: The Brazil duo sells for $32 at Drugstore.comNARS Duo Eye Shadow in Brazil and contains a shimmered pair: a bronzey ginger, and a muted rose. Very well paired for easy looks!

What are your thoughts on this look? What shadows are you sportin’ today?

Put a Spell on your eyes…

Purple eyeshadows by Spell Cosmetics
I wanted a simple, but colorful look the other day so I pulled out my new Spell Cosmetics mineral eyeshadows in Aurora and Passion.

Since I haven’t shared my thoughts on Spell’s eyeshadows on Bionic Beauty yet, here they are. Ready?
I thought so. ;)

These loose mineral shadows come packed in a screw-top sifter jar with Spell’s signature label on top. They’re clear on the bottom half so you can quickly pick out which color you need for the day.
The shadows themselves are wonderous. I’m almost (but not quite) beyond words they’re so lovely! The shadows are micro-milled to such a fine particle size that they feel SOFT when you apply them. The colors are true, highly pigmented, resist smudging and creasing, and they are amazingly blendable.
