Don’t you just love finding a gem in the rough? I do! My “gem” finding is usually a great indie beauty find, or something for my skin that works SO well that I shout it from the rooftops.

Two months ago, I spotted a bright yellow jar in the herbals section during my weekly Walgreens haunting. There were actually a few jars there that looked intriguing, but the one I snagged is “De La Cruz’s Sulfur Ointment“.

It's awesome for acne, trust me!!

It was less than five bucks for a tub that will last me at least a few years. I’ve been dabbing it on potential breakouts and current pimples now for over six weeks and the stuff is a miracle. It feels a bit goopy at first, apply it sparingly – trust me… a little goes a LONG way. I notice a very, very slight sulfur smell at first, but I’ve had other friends and family do a sniff check and they can’t detect it after even a minute. It works great under makeup, or before bed. Plus if you’re like me and have super-sensitive skin (Benzoyl Peroxide and Salicylic Acid often make me break out even worse), this frugal find could be just the ticket to clear up your skin.

I’ve bought a few bottles for friends and family – everyone is having great results! Since I am majorly pinching pennies lately, but don’t want my face and skin reverting into a acne-laden nightmare, I’ll definitely keep my Sulfur Ointment on my bedside table. My breakouts have decreased significantly, and if I do get a pimple, it heals in a few days rather than over a week or more.

I’m giving this my full Bionic Buy status! De La Cruz Sulfur OintmentBionic Beauty blog review - De La Cruz Sulfur Ointment to treat and clear acne is only $4.99 for a 3 ounce tub online at (or if you’re a Floridian, check your actual store aisles).

Ingredients: Sulfur USP 10%, plus a “mixture of polyethylene glycols”

Bionic loves the new Cactus & Ivy soaps

by Bionic Beauty on 17.Mar.2010 · 2 comments

One of my favorite companies, Cactus & Ivy, recently started making all-natural, hand made soaps.
All I can say is YUM. I am a sucker for homemade bar soap. There’s something nice about going back to the feel of the square soap, the scents that are so much stronger, and so much more pleasant than most shower gels… and these new Cactus & Ivy soaps are simply perfect.

My new soap love from Cactus and Ivy!!

There’s a soap for everyone. My personal favorite is the Spearcalyptus mostly because I’m a fangirl of anything that has Eucalyptus as a scent layer. The chunks of Spearmint and Eucalyptus leaves in the bar are amazing for exfoliating!

And even my super sensitive facial skin was a-okay with the Serene Face and Body bar. No scent, just simple, all natural ingredients that don’t cause reactions on your skin. If you like plain and simple, this is your soap!

Calendula Sunshine is so pretty I almost didn’t want to use it! It’s perfect for a morning shower… It’ll wake you up with a citrusy scent.

All the bars lasted for weeks in my shower…

Kalastyle Perfumeria Gal lip balm in Grosella Red Currant

Gal Collection Red Currant lip balm

Hi, I’m Jami. I am a total lip balm addict (stands up and waves).

To feed my addiction further, I’ve got both KALA Style’s Gal Collection Red Currant balm and their Agatha Ruiz de la Prada Tropical balm. Perfectly moisturizing without being goopy or overly glossy. And there’s zero stickiness!

But I don’t stop at using them just for my lips.
