I am really loving the OPI Designer Series (DS) nail polishes. Yes, they have been out for awhile now, but I waited until I saw them on sale at my local Trade Secret to start picking them up.
DS Extravagance is my favorite in the pink range. It’s more of a medium magenta. I do wish this polish had more of a holographic effect like Exclusive, but the self-colored and golden sparkles make me happy just the same.

As with the rest of the DS collection, OPI has made an amazing formula. There is absolutely NO grit. Application and removal is effortless. Although the polishes are dangerous… I can’t stop staring down at my nails!
If you’re more of a dark blue gal, don’t miss my article and photos of DS Fantasy!

Sorry, but your nails are far too short for nail polish of that colour and style. You should stick to clear or light pastels.
Ummm… thanks Sally for your insight (I think).
Jami
I have seen quite a few nail professionals recommend dark colors for shorter nails. I also personally tend to like darker shades on shorter nails and lighter shades on longer ones. I think the nails here look great!
Wow! And women belong in the kitchen. Think outside the box. I think those nails rawk.
Gorgeous color and it looks FAB on you.
Sally: Dark polish on short nails is sexy and preferred by many. Besides, we read beauty blogs to see colors and items we might not have in front of us and to experience products through another person’s eyes. Not everything looks great on every blogger – but I appreciate bloggers who show me the good, the bad, an the ugly.
That said, I stick with my opinions: this looks great, imho.
If someone is nice enough to swatch a nail color for us, I think we need to keep our focus where it belongs….the review of this nail polish!! These nails look very nice, but more important, I appreciate learning about this polish. Thanks for the review!
I see famous people on a regular basis wearing dark, even black polish on their nails. I think that it looks fabulous! I love the color. I like this one a lot better than the pastel color in your recent blog this past week, especially on your short nails!
Thanks everyone! I too, like the darker polishes on shorter nails. Otherwise I feel it can look a bit too extreme or Elvira-like.
Plus, like Stacy said, pastels look a little icky on me.
This is to Sally for her lack of knowledge…..
Chic you need to learn more about beauty before leaving comments in that degree. Its widely known that darker type lacquers look good/better on short/shorter type nails……and the lighter lacquers look better/good on longer ones. Though both look good on any length of nails. Its a matter of preference. Though, your judgment was uncalled for. To each his own. Girl, its so obvious that you are not really schooled in the nail beauty department. lol
To Bionic Beauty/Jami…….thanks a million for the swatches and blogs. Because I know that all this takes a lot of time. This swatch instantly made me put this lacquer in my cart.
Again…thanks for all your time you give!
Cindy, Thanks for your comment! I agree with you 100% on the nail fashion tips you mentioned. Darker colors on super long nails can end up looking a bit Halloweeny if you aren’t careful.
And thanks for recognizing the time I put in on the website. It’s soooo very nice to get comments like that. Some people count reader numbers or page views or income… personally I love the chatter that we all have. That’s when I know I have a great group of women that are all Bionic Beauties!
Cheers,
Jami (aka Bionic Beauty)
I understand everyone can have their own opinion but wow I can’t believe she said that. I bet she’s just a delight in real life haha! I really like this color and glad I found your blog. I’m currently wearing a dark purple on my extremely short nails!
You go girl! Rock those purple nails! I’m going to paint my super dark today in preparation for Halloween.
And welcome to Bionic Beauty! I hope to see ya on here in the future.
Have a wonderful rest of your week!
Best,
Jami (aka Bionic Beauty)
This is in response to the griping about the “too short” nails. I think it all depends on the person and all the proportions. Personally, my favorite length/shape is *some* length, but like a “short” long nail with squared edges. My preference is normally just a *little* longer than yours, but not very long at all. When I saw the picture of your nails I actually thought they looked really cute! You *DO* have some noticeable free edge sticking out and that is what makes nails look long and pretty. You don’t have the stubby look where they’re down to the quick.
I own and love that polish. I do agree that dark colors look good on short nails. I think dark colors on nails too long looks witch. But those nail ar horrible looking nails they are abnormal looking too stubby. Look at alllaquared blog now those are nice short nails. The color is great the nail isn’t. Too stubby.
Get arylics at a nautral lenght it will look better
Hi Helen, I actually used to do acrylics. I got them done at a salon for awhile, but then got my nail tech license & training and now do my own if I care to. Unfortunately, I always end up frustrated with them and the length (even the short versions), plus I can’t properly “scratch an itch”, and the cost was adding up. Everytime I would give my nails a break, they would take forever to strengthen back up again. I have very soft nails, short and wide nail beds, and hence my nails will never naturally grow long. I’m working on keeping them healthy, but I was just born with the “wrong” nail beds for it.
I *am* glad that acrylics work for you. I know some family members and friends who adore them. They just aren’t for me. I switch my polish too often too. *wink*
Cheers,
Jami
Dark polish will look good on short nails but not in stubby short & round nail beds. IMHO
Hi Anon, I wish my nail beds weren’t so round, but you gotta work with what you’re given. To me, Powerful Beauty means not worrying about those little things and just wearing what makes *me* happy.
I’m super late replying to this post. I think your nails look great and it’s people like you inspire me to wear new colors. Your nails are wicked cute, ignore Sally. She’s obviously the type of female that thinks women with short hair can’t wear long, dangly earrings. Keep swatching! ;-D
Thanks Izzy, and welcome to Bionic Beauty! Around here, you are never “too late” in responding to any post. I love keeping the discussions open as long as there’s people interested, so never worry about that!
Thanks also for the comments. Your attitude is exactly what I mean by “Achieving Powerful Beauty”. Be yourself, be inspired, and most of all be happy. If that means following trends for someone, then do it. If that means going a bit different route, then do that! But do it for yourself, not for what others think is “pretty”.
So like you said, my short nails and I will keep on swatching as long as I have polish colors to share (which isn’t likely to stop since I have a polish addiction, ha!); and when I had short hair, I certainly rocked my long earrings. All the more reason to show them off!!
Stay Bionic,
Jami
Hey,late comment, loving the colour alot!! Juts wondering is DS Extravagance free of toulene, formaldehyde and DBP? ‘cos it looks stunning and I can get very anal if it isn’t Big 3 free and I wanna get it soooooooo bad…!!!
Although I don’t get what the comments on what colour suits what type of nails are about, seems kinda negative. I’m more of a I’ll wear any type of nail polish and it’ll look good kinda person!
And another thing, I notice you’ve no polish on your cuticles. Bravo. I’m trying to master that ability ‘cos right now you could swim in the pools of polich on my cuticles
Thanks for the swatch !! ^^
