Help finding your best mascara

Have you ever been baffled by the endless arrays of mascaras out there? Personally, my ADD kicks in whenever I am near a makeup aisle. “How can I possibly pick the right mascara from all these choices?!?”

After many years of trials and tribulations (not to mention blood blisters on my eyes from a certain pink and green packaged mascara), I’ve finally found my favorites. I love, and swear by, Physicians Formula Mineral Wear mascaraPhysicians Formula Mineral Wear mascara ($6.36 at, Blinc’s tubing mascaraBlinc tubing mascara ($24 at, and for color- I am really liking Hard Candy’s lavendar and silver options (great for tip highlights when you feel a little wacky!).

Anyhow, here’s a super-short quiz from Total Beauty that will help you consider what qualities you should be looking for in mascaras.

Thanks, I have been a user of Almay Macara forever, because I have
sensitive eyes. I am going to try the Physicians Formula next.
Appreciate the suggestions you have !

Hi Robyn, If your eyes are sensitive, I really think the Physicians Formula or Blinc will be even better for you. They are much gentler on my lashes, my eyes, and eye lids. :)

L’Oréal’s Telescopic mascara is really good!!! It’s the best one I’ve ever used!!!

I totally agree that the choices are baffling! How many ways CAN that stuff be made and marketed, anyway?? What’s frustrating as all get-out, is when cosmetics companies change the packaging and/or formulas of existing mascaras. It makes it difficult to find your choice, when you don’t even know there have been changes. Ugh.

I’ve tried a bazillion different mascaras over the years, and still not settled on one tried-and-true one. For the last year or two, I’ve been using Cover Girl’s Lash Blast waterproof lengthening formula (orange tube). I think it’s usually around $7-10 for one tube (Target, CVS, Walgreen’s, etc.). But I’ve seen the occasional two-pack for quite a deal at Target for $10 (I’ve picked up a couple at such times.). I really like this mascara because it’s very reasonably affordable (always a plus), doesn’t clump, and quickly colors my lashes, with usually only two light coats needed. I do hate how narrow the bottom of the tube is; it makes it hard to stand it upright safely on the bathroom counter.

I have the CG Lash Blast waterproof mascara. I usually wear it when if I head to a pool or the beach (which is very rare these days). :) However, I do like it and I’ve never had a bad reaction from it.

I also dislike all the packaging changes and discontinuations. I panicked about a year ago when my beloved Physician’s Formula Mineral Wear disappeared from store shelves. I had my mom and sister start buying up all the tubes they could find. Thankfully it just seemed a stock shortage since I can still find them now. Whew! Crisis averted!!

Do you really like the Blinc? I got some at the advice of some trusted industry professionals, and I have to say I don’t love it. I find that the lashes stick together, and it is not as easy to remove as the brochures would lead you to believe…I’m not sure if it is the formula or the brush that is causing the lashes to stick…I’ve tried combing them out but that isn’t working either. Maybe I just need to practice with it more.

I’m looking for a new mascara. I’ve never owned one before so I’m not sure what to get since there are so many reviews of differentones. I have thick long eye lashes. I want a waterproof one since they hold curls better. Best one for those conditions w/ no clumping?
