Happy Harry Potter day everyone! If you’re not into the whole Potter-universe, I’ll apologize for my following article in advance. I’m a bit of a Harry fan-girl.
So in honor of me and the Bionic friends heading to a midnight showing tonight, I’ve done a full Harry Potter themed manicure and pedicure.
First, the “Dumbledore’s Army” pedicure…
Harry Potter - Dumbledore's Army pedicure
I used Sinful Colors nail polish in Rich in Heart (and it runs only about $2.50 at Walgreens stores!). It’s a black toned red and one of my favorites. To add a “magical effect”, I used Orly’s Love Each Other polish. It’s basically a clear coat with really tiny purple shimmer.
I drew on the Dumbledore’s Army logo using Sally Hansen Nail Art Pen in Silver. Then followed with a top coat of Seche Vite since the Sally Hansen pens wear off really easily without a big, thick top coat.
Next up, my fingers…
Since I’m dressing up as Hermione Granger I wanted to add some Ancient Runes symbols and of course, the Deathly Hallows symbol. As you can tell, I fully embrace my geeky side. I made my own Hogwarts robe, S.P.E.W and Prefect badges… afterall, geek is the new chic, right?

The colors used are:
- Lancome’s Le Vernis nail polish in Indigo Paris (this is a Fall 2009 color that was sent to me as as an preview, it’s absolutely gorgeous!). You could use any other deep color such as Rich in Heart, Sally Hansen’s The Deepest of Plums or After Midnight, or OPI’s DS series “Fantasy”. Sinful Colors have loads of deep polishes that would work for this look!
- Sally Hansen Nail Art Pen in Silver to draw on the symbols.
- And topped it all off with a coat of Seche Vite.

And finally a close up of The Deathly Hallows symbol…

Sweetness BB! Loving the Harry-themed Ped and Manicure. We can’t go tonight, but hopefully by weekend.
To honor Hermione and Hagrid, Mythbuster Beauty should do a segment on how to care for thick, curly hair!
Yes! Excellent article idea! My extensions for tonight (they are the Revlon “faux” hair ones) look great, but they are a bit too frizzy. I’m having fits trying to calm them down a bit. I’m using some all natural (no alcohol) spray in conditioner *very* lightly and combing through with my fingers.
Thanks for the compliments too.
These are ammmmazzzinggg! I will have to post pics of my little scar tattoo…AND I’ll be seeing it at midnight!
Melissa, I can’t wait to see your scar pictures!!
We’re all gonna be very snoozy tomorrow. ha ha!
Love the nails and piggies!! The colors are so cool and they do give off a magical vibe. I am also a Harry Potter fan and can’t wait to see it when it come out on pay per view. I am sick and can’t get out around people a whole lot. So everyone have fun for me too!! I can’t wait to see A Haunting in Conneticut. I love those scary movies!! Later,BBs
Michelle, I’ll have a Butterbeer for you.
Sorry you can’t see it in theaters, but it’ll be out to PPV so quick. I want to see A Haunting in Connecticut too! I wish we could have a big online Bionic Beauties movie night. Virtual chat, movies, candy, and did I mention candy?
Dear Jami-
I am so not a Harry Potter follower. I just have never invested the time to really get into reading the books or seeing the movies. Just like the Twilight series….I know shame on me, at times I am totally under the rock. Someday, I will get with the program. Your nails look fantastic!! Geez!!! Where did you get your manicure skills? So artistic!!! Hope you had lots of fun and rocked your Hogwart’s Robe.
Yvonne C.
Heya Yvonne, Ahh… that’s okay. We can’t all be fanatical over the same things, right? Thanks for the compliments on my nails… lots of deep breaths and slow-going really. Plus the Sally pens are nice because if you mess up, they just wipe off. Then you can start over. When you’ve got it perfect, just let it dry a bit and then seal it up.
You are such an uber geek…And I love it!!!
Ahhhh yes. I am an uber-geek.
One of my friends read the article above and commented “I don’t think ‘a bit of a Harry Potter fan-girl’ covers it nearly at all”.
Being geeky is fun. At least for me. Ha!
I love how nerdy you are! Seriously, it’s like your my sister from another mister, or something. Just WAIT until you see my Green Bay Packer Elizabethan costume I’m making for Ren Fest this year
Hmm. I wonder what makeup I should wear?
Oooh! I’ve seen the shot of the vest I think. LOVE IT! Even though I’m a Bucs fan.
You should definitely wear green and gold eyeshadows! Hmmm… Milani’s Clover would be perfect. As for gold- I like Shiny Mama’s Sunray Glimmer pencil. It’s shiny-tastic!
God… I love costuming. Did you know I got Bella’s jacket from Twilight? I know you hate Twilight, but I thought you’d appreciate my costuming efforts. Ain’t no way I’m making a jacket. That’s beyond my sewing abilities. lol. I *did* however make her bracelet, ring, Twilight cell phone charm and a Cullen Baseball jersey! I’m all set for November, just add Waterproof makeup. Which I’ll be wearing tonight in preparation for my cry-fest when Dumbledore dies. That darn Snape. Grrrr.
Tashi, The Bionic hubby nods off in all of them so you’re definitely not alone.
I’d venture to guess if you haven’t read/didn’t like/enjoy the books, the movies are kind of full of holes and the characters certainly don’t mean as much. My favorite character, Ginny, has such tiny parts in the movies, it frustrates me.
Ok, off to finish my hair! Woo hoo!
I need to seriously get those Sally Hansen nail art pens!
They look soo great. I so wish I had time for this today before I go to the cinema. But nooo, I have to work today and can not prepare. If I remember right I have some red and gold nail polish somewhere. Would fit my Gryffindor colours.
(8 hours and 11 minutes… – no, I’m not counting the time …)
I’m so looking forward. 8 hours and 13 minutes left till the movies and we will have so much fun. Especially because we are one person from every house. And we didn’t arrange it like this!
Sorry, I think I’m a little bit fan girl too.
Oh my word! I love your HP themed mani and pedi! Harry nerds unite. My roomie just installed a gigantic flat screen tv in his room. I was all “I can’t wait to have a Hp movie marathon weekend on this thing.” I wonder if he’d let me give us Harry themed manicures at the same time?!
Sadly, I think my mani would not be as lovely as yours, BB. I’m all thumbs in home manis/pedis. (Prepping hands and nails, clear polishes are fine – anything with color turns into a mess!) Nice work!
You let your Geek-Flag fly girl! I think it is so cute that you are so nerdy. I am not to the same extremes as I used to be (3 toddlers can do that too you!) but I can’t stay out of deep debates over vampires, superheroes and such. I can’t keep it in the closet.
Thanks Lori! I can’t keep it mum either. Somehow when I am chattering with friends I always end up bringing up Harry, Edward, my latest craze in superheros, or video games. I guess that’s what makes me, me.
I hope you get some quiet time! I can’t imagine chasing after 3 toddlers. You are one amazing gal!!
