Is it the end of mascara?

The makers of Botox have received FDA approval for their new drug, Latisse. Latisse is a cream-based drug to help increase the amount of eyelashes. It’s also supposed to lengthen lashes and darken them.

Some of the potential side-effects listed though are frightening, in my opinion. Eye redness, itchiness, permanent darkening of lids or whites of eyes and more. Plus I’m sure it’ll cost an arm and a leg. Current quotes are around $4 per day and you have to use it continuously to maintain the benefits. My wallet is cowering in fear.

What do you think of all the voluntary “medical” procedures that are presented to us these days? Botox, lipo, eyelash extensions, collagen injections – heck there are even ball of foot injections to make your high heels more comfortable.

Personally, I’m not ready to jump on the band-wagon. It’s too costly for one, and for another, I’m quite happy being imperfect. As I’ve grown up, I have realized I don’t want to look like every other chick out there. Different is good for me. But what’s your opinion? Will you be interested in getting a prescription for Latisse?

For more reading, check out the articles in UK’s Telegraph, Scientific American and the official Latisse website.

This is so insane. I would never use this – what if you went blind?

I personally wish they would quit messing around with this stuff. Before you know it we are going to begin to hear that it causes irreversible or irreparable damage. We just don’t know enough about this product or its ingredients.

In regards to Botox, the only good thing I have heard about Botox injections is it has brought excellent relief to some migraine sufferers. This could be its worth but still not enough known about it for long term use.

I’ll stick with my skin creams and mineral makeup before I’ll ever try this stuff. As for Chronic Migraine sufferers, this could be their miracle.

Botox is an excellent drug if you know how to use it. As for a new remedy, let’s wait for a better knowing.

I agree with these statements. I would be terrrified to use this stuff! My once-luxuriant lashes may be thinning, paling, and have become brittle as I have aged, but my sight means far more to me than having flirty eyes ever did. Any type of drug can have severe side effects and should not be used just to appease our vanity! We need to become more accepting of ourselves and think about what kind of example we are setting for our children’s concept of themselves.

ick. I feel horrible for all the poor animals being injected with these meds so people can make themselves feel pretty.
Of course we all want to look amazing all the time, but I don’t at the cost of animal testing.
we have some darn good mascaras and fake eyelashes right now if the mood is right!

This IS insane. I use Revitalash and have awesome lashes now… So, why would I go through the trouble of a prescription for a DRUG when I can buy Revitalash from the salon and not have all these crazy side effects… kinda out weighs the result.. haha
