Bionic’s Olympian pedi nail art

by Bionic Beauty on 25.Feb.2010 · 15 comments

I got into the Olympic spirit these last few weeks and decided an Olympic themed-pedicure would help even further. I used Vancouver’s Olympic color scheme of greens, blues, whites and teals blended with arches, mountains, a various other graphics. Of course, since toe nails aren’t the largest canvas out there, things came out a bit squishy… but I think you still get the idea due to the colors.

My "Bionic" Olympian nail polish colors

So here it is…

The colors I used in order of application…

  1. Color Club matte nail polish in Ghost of a Chance (semi-matte white cream polish from the 2009 Halloween collection)
  2. Essie in Great Expectations (very, very light gray with very subtle shimmer)
  3. Sally Hansen Lacquer Shine in Glow (an “alien green” metallic frost – this is one of my favorite polishes ever!)
  4. Barry M in Mint Green (semi-translucent minty cream)
  5. Sally Hansen Salon in Honeydew (Spring 2009 Limited Edition “Tracy Reese” collection – Honeydew is a turquoise/teal with subtle silvery shimmer. Very pretty!)
  6. Color Club in Pure Energy (A neon blue with lots of duochrome shimmer, what more can you ask for?)
  7. China Glaze in Frostbite (a medium brilliant blue frost, available at most Sally Beauty stores)
  8. Sinful Colors in Pearl Harbor (clear polish with teal glitter flecks, available at Walgreens stores for $2.49)
  9. Super Dry top coat (My $1 bargain buy, super quickie dry top coat. It’s the best quick dry top coat I’ve ever tried, not the longest wearing but for nail art or a quick polish job, it’s the best. I found mine at a Dierberg’s grocery in St. Louis, MO.)
  10. Sally Hansen Nail Art pen in Silver (I suggest applying this after several hours, otherwise it pushes through the polish layers, and you end up with dents. Be SURE to apply a top coat after or it just rubs right off!)

Have you ever created nail polish art inspired by an event, artwork, sports team, movie, etc? And if you’ve been watching the Olympics, what has been your favorite part? (If you follow me on Twitter, you *know* my fave part is the Men’s Hockey and the fact that we are IN THE FINAL FOUR!! Ok, I’ll stop shouting now…)

I love this! I don’t really do themes, but this is fantastic!

Thank you Stacy!! 🙂

Oh and by the way, the big toes looked A LOT better before…
1. My dog stepped on the left one smooshing the polish around, which I then had to “fix”.
2. I tried to write USA on the big toes. It doesn’t show up well and ruined the arches and pretty areas of color on those nails. So if I did it again, I’d leave that part off.

I couldn’t tell. They still look fab!

Well, I wouldn’t say I do themes, but I DO have polish to match all my favorite teams’ colors!!

Woo hoo!! I do simple ones usually, like just deep blue for The Blues. 😉 But the artistic urge hit me the other night.

Yeah, I thought of the St. Louis Blues when I saw those toenail colors. 🙂 David Backes on the Blues is from MN, so I’m sure he’s a cool guy. 😉 Btw, great paint job, Jami!

I was in 5th grade at the time of the “Miracle on Ice”, all those many moons ago (I sure miss Herbie Brooks, though.). I haven’t been this excited for the men’s Olympic hockey team since then — Sunday, Gold Medal game, here we coooooooome, baby!!!!! If the USA wins, I think a LOT of folks will be jumpin’ on their beds, on their couches, and probably hugging in the tv aisle at Target, too. Hee-hee. 8)

Tashi, Look on my Facebook account (my personal one) and look under the photo album “NHL Playoffs” and you’ll see my Blues pedicure. 🙂
(Here’s a link, not sure if it’ll work… Blues pedicure by Jami.

And just like Tashi said… BREAKING NEWS!!! USA Men’s hockey killed Finland just now. We’re headed for the Gold medal game on Sunday!! So we’re gonna get Silver at worse. Wouldn’t it be great for Canada and the USA to meet up again? That way I won’t be too upset either way. 🙂

Hmmm… tv hugging at target. LOL! Oh, and thankfully I placed my TV up on a dresser (yee-ouch, darn thing is HEAVY!!). So even my klutzy self can’t knock it down during my hockey game celebrations!!

Oh and I heart Backes. But my favorite players are Barrett Jackman of the Blues; and Jamal Mayer (formerly of the Blues). Perron, Oshie (you got Oshied!), Boyes (he’s a FL boy!), MacDonald are cool too.

I don’t often polish my fingernails, and I never do my toenails. But I think “themed” artwork with the polishes is a groovy idea. I usually stick to plain polish, nothing artsy.

**GO, USA MEN’S HOCKEY TEAM, WOOHOOOO!!!!** 😀 It would be sweeeeet if we got a gold medal — anytime, yeah. But especially now, 30 years after “Miracle on Ice”. It’s too bad the US women’s team lost yesterday. But still, what accomplishments!!

11 Bionic Beauty February 26, 2010 at 4:31 pm

Yes, the women’s team still did great in my opinion. I can’t wait to see how the rest of the men’s games turn out!!! GO HOCKEY!!! Can you imagine how perfect it would be, if like you said, they won gold this year after the 30 years?!? I’d probably start bouncing on my bed. ha ha!

HOLY COW!!! How long did that take you? I don’t even want to think about what a mess mine would look like 🙂

13 Bionic Beauty February 26, 2010 at 4:29 pm

It was pretty messy actually. My fingers were covered in polish from wiping off the excess from the edges. Lots of polish remover on a Qtip to clean up. LOL! It actually wasn’t too long… I did them during the 2nd period of the USA/Canada game the other night. 😀

I guess I got to change my attitude. I always wear orange. Sometimes lighter, some times darker.

15 Bionic Beauty March 1, 2010 at 8:45 am

Hi Claudia, Welcome to Bionic Beauty! There’s nothing wrong with orange polish. I have quite a few, but I do love to shake things up depending on my attitude. What’s your favorite orange polish? I love OPI’s Magnifico Mexico, it’s a bit of a burnt orange with shimmer… it’s perfect for summer pedis!
I hope to see you around BB in the future!
