This week’s Powerful Beauty segment features author Kim Brittingham. Not only does Kim have her own website and blog at KimWrites.com, but she’s also an accomplished essayist and video host! As if that didn’t keep her busy enough, this year she has a new memoir book being released by Harmony Books – “Read My Hips”.
Congratulations Kim on your upcoming book, I’m sure it will be a great success! And now, here are Kim’s thoughts on how each woman can achieve her very own Powerful Beauty…
I believe every woman is a bionic beauty — she just has to let her innate beauty show. When you see and acknowledge that beauty in yourself, what other people see is you at your personal best.
It’s not about imitation or trying to squeeze into someone else’s unique mold. It’s about looking for, finding and really, truly SEEING your own many beauties.
Personally, I LOVE Kim’s emphasis on embracing your own individuality. I know it can be tough to step outside of your comfort zone, but sometimes it can help you learn new things about yourself and your personality.
For instance back in 2007 and 2008, I had some rough times due to health issues. I’ve certainly never been an extrovert, but during this period of my life, I lost a lot of my self-esteem. So I bleached my hair, and dyed it blue. I’d wanted to do it for years (I admit that I was influenced by one of my all-time favorite television characters, Sydney Bristow of Alias). But the main thing that resulted from that wacky blue hair, was a surge in my self-confidence. You simply cannot walk into a restaurant or airport meekly with screaming blue hair. It’s still one of the favorite things I have done in my life.
What do you think of Kim’s Powerful Beauty contribution? What are your best qualities, and did you always know you had them?
