Product Review: Lancome’s Le Crayon Kohl

Lancome's eye pencils
I’ve been testing the Lancome Le Crayon Kohl (fancy name for a kohl eyeliner pencil) in Black Coffee. The Black Coffee color is a rich, deep brown which works well on light to medium skin, without looking as harsh as a black eyeliner. The pencil wears well, I got a full day with any smudges or drop out.

Lancome’s eyeliner was very smooth on my lid. It did not pull or tug, which was a welcome relief for my sensitive skin! Additionally, Lancome’s eyeliner was voted by Allure Magazine into their “Hall of Fame” beauty products.

The pencil sells for $23.00 (from Lancome USA) and is available in 7 additional color choices which cover everything from white to blues to plums and greens.

This sounds like a great product, but it’s just over my $20 cut-off. Darn! Do you have a drug store brand you like as much… or almost as much?

Ooooh yes! For an alternative, I would recommend the Physician’s Formula liner. I have the one that twists up so it self-sharpens. You can find them for around $6 at most drugstores and mass retailers. They have a gorgeous brown color as well! :)

OMG, I loved this! I used to use this one I think about 12 years ago. It’s the perfect shade for my olive/tan complexion. I agree that it’s very smooth, yet, unlike other pencils, didn’t smudge on my slightly oily skin. The pencil was nice and long, and if I hadn’t lost it during a move a few months after purchase, I know it would’ve lasted a long time for me. At $25CDN back then, I just couldn’t justify another purchase fearing I’d lose it again.
Thanks for reviewing this, J… it’s a product people should know about. :)

Nenette, Thanks for reminding me. I should have mentioned how long this pencil is. I think it will easily last me over a year! That certainly helps me not get price-shock when I’m used to spending $5-$10 on an eyeliner.

Has anyone used loreal le grand kohl eyeliner? It is now discontiued and I need to know if there is a product that works as well

Yvette, I used to use that eyeliner as well. Sorry to hear it is discontinued. Since Lancome and L’Oreal are the same company, their products are typically VERY similar. So you might try one of their eyeliners.

I would also recommend the Physician’s Formula self-sharpening liner (you can find these at most drugstores and mass market retailers).
Coastal Scents also just released some new eyeliners. I like theirs as well.
I hope this helps!
