Bionic Reviews Barry M Cosmetics’ nail polish and eyeshadow

I was recently introduced to Barry M Cosmetics when they sent me a few products to test out. I hadn’t heard of them before, but unlike many people, I enjoy that. I love finding brands that are a bit “lesser known”.

Let’s start with a little background on Barry M. Their tagline is “The most colourful name in cosmetics”. They are based in the UK and apparently very well known across the pond. Barry M was founded in 1982 and has quite the cult following from ladies who love bright, playful colors. Their makeup certainly isn’t for the shy at heart.

First up, I tried out Barry M’s nail polish.

Barry M Cosmetics nail polish in Mint Green

I received the polish in Mint Green. While this color is super cute, it wouldn’t have been my first pick if I was ordering. That said, I loved the application- very smooth, fluid, with a nice brush. I’m exceptionally rough on my nails, and I typically chip and peel after a full day. Barry M made it a day and a half so they came in a little better than average for me. The Barry M nail polishes were named as an InStyle Best Beauty Buys winner in 2008 (for best inexpensive nail polish range).

There are 63 colors in the Barry M range and all are available at their online shop. Prices are £2.95 (which is about $4.80) per bottle. The one I’m longing for? Violet Gold Shimmer. I bet that’s gorgeous in the sun!

And now my review of Barry M’s Dazzle Dust. Dazzle Dust is basically a loose pigment eyeshadow. I got the color Block Blue (which is new for this season)– it’s a bright “pool” blue, kind of turquoise, kind of blue and semi-matte. The photo above shows a few coats applied over my normal foundation. If you look closely you’ll see that I had some application issues.

  • This eye shadow seemed to wander (check out the area above my inner corner… blue! which doesn’t help the fact that I didn’t get much sleep the night before…)
  • It was very difficult to get it to apply evenly
  • Blending was pretty much impossible
  • The pigmentation was not nearly as bright as I expected. The photo above is 4 (count them… 4!) coats to try to get it even and bright.
  • However, the jars are packed full of product.

If you are wondering, in the look above, I used L’Oreal HIP eyeliner in Teal (read my review and other looks here) to tightline my upper and lower waterlines and then topped my lashes with Urban Decay’s new Skyscraper Multi-Benefit Mascara.

Dazzle Dust eye shadows are available at Barry M Cosmetics online shop and come in 76 colors. Pricing is £4.50 ($7.32 for the Americans) per pot of shadow.

Overall, I liked the Barry M nail polish and will probably order a few more, but I think I’ll pass on the Dazzle Dust.

Wow – I would never, ever have thought that you would have had to put on so many coats on your eyes! @PumpsAndGloss loves Barry M products, but I personally don’t know much about them – they aren’t exactly handy to get, lol.

I love Barry M, esp the dazzle dusts! I don’t find them difficulto to blend at all. The only problem I have with application is fallout, but that happens with most pigments. And while it is true that some shades are sheer and you need several coats for the color to show up, others are very pigmented.

I haven’t tried the nail polishes yet, but they’re next on my list. That mint green looks very pretty!
