To Lisa's though, many don't use Toner's and while it is true the skin returns to a normal pH of about 5.5 in most zones, a return to the normal pH level may take up to 30 minutes or more. You may have exceptional skin but most can have minor skin problems. A pH level more than normal can aggravate skin conditions as it is the slightly acidic level that helps protect us from fungus, bacteria and virus. My well water ph test's higher than 8.9 on my fishtank chemical test. I never used toner's much, until I learned about this. Now when I rinse my face and dry it, it feel's really dry. After I "erase" the hard water from my face with the toner, it feel's truly "good".... I think every person has a different set of circumstance's..and therefore different need's and opinion's. However, they do quite a bit more than adjusting your skin's pH level. In particular, Jeune D'age's toner clarifies skin, removes oxidation/pollution from your environment, removes leftover particles of makeup and dirt, closes pores, and provides moisture. It can also help clarify your pores (shrinking and decongesting them) when used longer term (think- over 6 weeks). I hope this helps clarify some things on why toners can certainly be a VERY important part of your skin care. I do not advise using harsh toners (like Seabreeze from the drugstore)- those can be exceptionally drying, remove too many oils from your skin, and definitely work adversely on your pH (throwing it way out of whack).
