Sampling beauty products with vending machines

by Bionic Beauty on 14.Jan.2010 · 19 comments

On a recent shopping trip to Atlanta, I spotted a huge wall graphic screaming “New Beauty Sample Bar!”. I was all oogley eyes and drawn like a moth to a flame.

Here’s a photograph of the display….

Up close and personal with the vending machine…

As I expected, the cosmetics were well-known and luxury beauty brands including: Phyto, Dr. Brandt, Peter Thomas Roth, DDF, Murad, SuperSmile, Cosmedicine, and many others. There were eye serums, toners, face lotions, anti-aging potions, cleansers, teeth whitening “creams”- pretty much anything in the beauty skin care realm. All packaged in little sample sizes.

Have you spotted any of these beauty vending machines at your local mall? Would you consider buying samples in this manner?

I know they have lots of things like this at the Mall of Ga, although I am IPODS, and the likes in them. I don’t think that I would buy any beauty products or electronics from something like this. You could never be too sure how old the product is before buying it. Plus, what if you can’t see all the ingredients and you are highly allergic to something. I can see the up side, but for me the risk outweighs the positive.

Oooohhh!!! Awesome!! Do you think I could one of those on my living room?? lol I love samples!

Stephanie, Don’t we all! I was so excited when I started finding free samples all across the internet. That’s pretty much how Bionic Beauty was born. I was emailing friends & relatives about freebies constantly. They got tired of me filling up their inboxes. 😉

Not sure how I messed up my comment so much before, but it was suppose to say that they have electronics like IPODS… I think “and the likes of them” came from reading a novel that was set in Ireland… lol. Not as dumb as I sound in that comment.

LOL! I knew exactly what you were saying actually. :) I saw one of those “gadget” vending machines at the airport. YUMMY! But that’s me loving gadgets.

I’m with you though Stacy. I want (and NEED) to read ingredients due to my allergies; and I want to know how long something has been sitting on that shelf.

This is the coolest thing since sliced bread!! I would end up spending like $100, and leave with a bag of samples. I would go when I needed a little pick-me-up without spending a ton of money. I think that they think we’re too much of cheese heads to care about makeup here in good ol’ wisconsin.

I am going crazy. This is geographically unfair. I want one. Yes, in the living room……that is so cool. I’m not worthy………..

I have not seen this before…and I would definitely take a close look at it. Sampling is the best way to experiment with new products.

My daughter bought me some Bare Minerals at the Sephora machine at JC Penney’s. I love my stuff. It is the perfect size to keep in my purse.
I think this is a great idea!~

I just saw a Sephora vending machine in the airport in Nashville. Although I was tempted, I walked away. But if they had something I had my eye on, it would have flown home with me!

This is fabulous! I have never seen anything like this where I live. I own a vending machine company but only have machines that vend snacks and drinks…I would absolutely consider working with a local mall to install machines that offer beauty samples. FABULOUS!

How much were the trail-sized versions of these products? I would totally hit the sample vending machine, but there’s only a certain dollar amount I might be willing to lose to it.

Buying teeth whitening products out of a vending machine is probably not the safest thing, especially if they are expired! Professionals offer revolutionary Teeth Whitening NJ procedures that produces amazing results in only 20 minutes! They use FDA approved LED technology to offer a more affordable and efficient method than comparable services on the market today.

Hi Kalicha, Welcome to Bionic Beauty! Unfortunately I am not affiliated with the sample machines at the malls. I only spotted one at a mall I was visiting. is basically a daily, online women’s and beauty magazine/website. I hope this helps explain things a bit, and I really hope you can find another sample machine in your area soon!

Please feel free to comment back with any questions. I hope to see you around the Bionic Beauty blog in the future!
Best regards,
Editor & Founder
