One of my main complaints with mineral makeup has been the application.. I tap a bit of powder into the lid of the sifter jar and then swirl my brush. However, usually the caps are so small there’s no room to swirl, and if there is, your brush gets all boogered up. Ugh! Right?
I was cruising through the home improvement gardening center, when POW! An idea. I picked up a glazed flower pot bottom, in pink, no less for $1.49 (!!!). Now I just tap a bit of powder into my saucer and swirl in wonderful, luxurious room!

A few details- I picked a pot bottom that is teeny. Mine is about 3 inches across so it stows nicely in my makeup case. You can chuck them in your dishwasher to clean and disinfect, and please be sure you get a *glazed* pot bottom. The regular terracotta saucers are porous and are not the easiest to clean & disinfect.
There you have it… a super cheap, super easy Bionic makeup tip. Have you ever found an ordinary item that does double duty in the makeup department? Will you use this tip in your mineral makeup application?

Your way is a bit more environmentally friendly than mine, but here’s another trick from someone who can’t walk and chew gum at the same time: get a box of hamburger patty sheets from a restaurant supply store (a la Smart N Final). A box of 1,000 5X5 wax paper sheets is under $5. Pull out a sheet, tap what you need onto the sheets, swirl and toss. Next day, new sheet! My grout hasn’t stopped thanking me for this one. I just finished my first box of sheets – and that includes doing boutique shows, etc where I can end up doing 30 faces a day, so that $5 will last you forever.
Girl you are so crafty!!!
You. Are. AWESOME!!! Love the frugal tip, and I’ll be sure to try it out!
Great idea! I always tend to dump the makeup into my palm over the sink, and proceed to generally make a mess! I’ll have to give this try.
So clever! Love it. I’m putting it on my list of things to get next time I’m shopping. Thanks! xo
Ingenious! Thanks for the tip! I love saving money on my cosmetics…especially since I have so many.
Robyn, That’s a great idea too! If I was doing makeup for others, I would definitely use that trick!!
Jose, Cheap Chick, Carleen, & Nenette, Thanks! It’s very handy. I was SO sick of the mineral makeup mess too.
This is a great tip, thanks
Check out a thing called “Minerals Mate” on ebay. It’s a palette just for applying minerals makeup.
I use a piece of paper from my printer and fold it in half and then in half again. Then I put it on top of a washcloth on my sink. Open the paper, put it on the washcloth and pour the mineral powder on top. After applying to my face, I fold the paper and pour the remaining powder back into the container! Ready for use again tomorrow.
I bought one of those Minerals Mate palettes last week and used it today. LOVE IT!
