The look is just a variation on the smokey eye, but since I adore Clinique’s Dark Denim eyeshadow alone, I wanted to create an entire look around it. I was inspired by my favorite dark jeans and thought… this would make a perfect smoked eyeshadow look!
First I lined my eyes (upper and lower lash line) with a black kohl pencil. I used Physician’s Formula Eye Definer in Ultra Black. An optional step- line your inner water line. (Note: Your water line is the inner rim of your lower lash line.)

Next using a large shadow brush, I swept a even coat of Clinique’s Stay Matte eye shadow in Dark Denim. Dark Denim is a deep blue, and of course, like the name implies… it’s matte. No hint of sparkle anywhere. Once applied however, the color looks a bit more like pewter or a gunmetal smoke gray.
Using a smaller contour shadow brush, I added a new coat of shadow in the outer corner of my eyes. Then used the shadow to accent the crease of my eye. Basically use the shadow to trace the upper “round” of your eyeball. This helps deepen your eye look and smokify everything.

Load up your smudge brush) (or a sponge tip) with shadow and smoosh it slowly along your upper and lower lash line- right over top of your black eyeliner from the first step. I’ve detailed the shadow color, brushes used, and final steps below…
For a final step, use the large shadow brush to blend everything a bit. Finish with mascara (or leave it off for a grungier look). I used {me} by Mezhgan’s Look at Me mascara in Dramatic Me (black).
