What’s Your Favorite Sunless Tanner for Face?

by Bionic Beauty on 13.Apr.2008 · 19 comments

I am looking to try some new sunless tanners, specifically for face. Can any Bionic Beauty readers suggest a few? Or do you just use bronzer to create a faux-glow?

I am always paranoid about using a sunless tanner on my face, so I usually use a bronzing powder. My favorite is Sugar’s Bronzing Duo. The perfect shade blush and bronzer in a huge compact.

I like to use bronzer. I haven’t found anything that doesn’t make me break out yet.

Lydia and Jen, That’s my problem as well. The sunless tanner’s I have tried on my face just cause blemish issues. I guess it’s bronzer for me. I’ve been using Milani’s Duo bronzers which sound similar to Sugar’s and look similar too. Very handy for travel too as both products are right there in one. I even use the bronzer on my eyelids in a pinch. :)

Sherry, Sounds great! I will be in touch!

Cheers,

I am using Jergen’s tanner for face and it is working really well so far. Review is coming soon. :)
Nice glow and a little goes a long way.
I also use bronzer and here is my review of it…

BB,
I have also been using the Jergen’s tanner for face and I love it! I also use two products by Laura Geller her Bronze and Brighten which i love because it has not made me break out and it looks very natural. I also like to use her Color Wash in Sunkissed it give you a bit of color with that sun glow look.

Excellent. I guess I will give the Jergen’s for face a chance- I do like their body version. I’ve never tried any Laura Geller products, so this might be my first.
Thank you ladies!!

BB,
Just FYI Laura Gellar is on QVC today and they are selling bronze and brighten for 2 easy pays. I think she comes on again at 4 ( thats central time ) but it’s on the qvc website..along with her other products!

Yeah… I’m big on the bronzer technique. What I found that I really love is Neutrogena’s Shimmer Sheers in Mystified for my pale skin. A dab as a blush, or more all over for a tanned look.

I did try that Jergen’s gradual tanner. But it makes my face itches if i use it too much, so only sparingly – which is pretty much detrimental to the whole “build-up process.” My face is sooo sensitive, if it doesn’t break out, it gets dry. If it isn’t those, then it’s itchy which turns into splotchy skin (and forget trying to wear foundation or anything, because I’ll scratch that right off!)

Natural tanning under the summer sun with SPF is the best way to go for me, sad to say!

As a freelance makeup artist, I have tried just about every bronzing and tanning product imaginable, from drugstores, department stores and even the brands sold at home parties. For your face, I recommend Clarins Express Tanning Gel or Lancome Flash Bronzer for the face. A good powder bronzer is by MAC; it is not glittery or too shimmery like many brands.

Hope this helps. Feel free to contact me with any questions,

Nikki

P.S. Neither Clarins nor Lancome smell bad, either, like most do! Very light, pleasant smell and neither cause your skin to break out in zits!

Kara, Thanks for your words of wisdom! Those of us with sensitive skin really have trouble finding products that don’t cause breakouts or reactions. I picked up a Shimmer Sheer on your recommendation.

Nikki, Thank you as well! :) I grabbed the Lancome Flash Bronzer for face this weekend since I like their Flash Bronzer for body as well. I’m hoping it will work. I’m crossing my fingers.

Clarins and Lancome do not smell bad! Yay!!! L’Oreal owns Lancome, do you guys think they would make a similar product? I want to try theirs, but don’t wanna waste $$ on it. Might be cheaper but be crap. I like the L’Oreal prices better than Lancome’s !

Out of the blue, a co-worker told me of Kiehl’s self tanning formula. There’s only one place in my town to get it & I haven’t worked up the nerve to go there yet. I’m still not entirely sold on the whole notion, but I am soooo pale I’m blue.

She swears by it after it having taken her quite a while to “come around” herself! So for that reason, I might bite. I’d love to read another review.
