Product Review: Y-Y Color Maintenance Hair Care

Sequoia hair shampoo by Y-Y skincare

Using sulfate-free shampoo and conditioners over the past 4-5 months has REALLY improved the condition of my hair. My color lasts longer, it’s shiny, bouncy and even holds styles better (which means less gunky styling products, yippee!). Plus, you get the internal happiness of knowing you are not swishing a bunch of sulfates down your drain and into our reservoirs and water supply (another yippee!).

And I’m always psyched to try out a new hair care line… Currently up at bat is Y-Y’s Color Maintenance hair care line. The shampoo dubbed “Sequoia” and the conditioner is called “Dogwood”. The names are fun and invoke the appropriate feeling since the line has plenty of lovely herbals that are good for your mane.

Sequoia Shampoo was super gentle (I shampoo every day), didn’t strip my color and in fact made it last even longer than usual. My hair was clean but not stripped. My scalp was healthy, and there was no buildup. I really enjoy the soft scent. The bottle shape is nice too. Have you ever been in the shower and trying to figure out how to get your hand around one of those weird shaped bottles? Inevitably, they just splat on the floor knocking down your razor, shaving cream, breaking the pump on something and splitting another bottle open. Anyhow, Y-Y’s bottles are perfectly hand sized with an easy flip top cap and the labeling feels like a high-end spa.

Dogwood Conditioner has a similar herbal blend and hence, has a similar scent. Perfect companions. This conditioner was thick and rich in the palm but surprised me when it readily blended through my hair. Sometimes if a product is too thick you can never get it around your entire hair- not a problem with Dogwood. A little goes a looonnnng way to perfect moisture. No tangles, splits or frizz. Three times a week (about every other day) I leave this conditioner on for a few extra minutes while I shower- just for a little extra deep conditioning.

Sequoia Color Maintenance Shampoo is $18.97 and Dogwood Color Maintenance Conditioner runs $19.97 at Y-Y’s website. Both are packaged in 8.0 ounce bottles.

I’ve included a full ingredient list for both Sequoia and Dogwood below…
